No idea what happened to the one we used to have on the farm. I expect dad tidied it up into a hole in the front like he prone to do :-(

The old geezer wouldn't budge on price, he was retiring his blacksmith hobby. Lots of old gear, vices, anvils drills etc.
Got my mate a pipe vice for his jetter to change nozles
what ever you do - before you plug that in - uncross those output terminal lugs
1760378208450.png

only the little 110A but'll be fine for 2.5mm and 3.25mm rods - it won't run a 4mm ... they don't come any better than an Oxford/Cytringen oil cooled .... unusually I don't see a dipstick in that set .... must've binned best part of 30 gallons of transformer oil when I cleared my old shop

I bought the 225 amp one at auction heavy prick of a yoke was the main reason I sold it in the end along with the fact I dont need 4 arc welders, really need to sort the SA 200 out will be right on then 👌
225 or 250 A?
oxfords were 250 and a serious lump

Mine was on castors as well needed help getting it into a Citroen dispatch, it was bad enough rolling it around on concrete and thought sod it it can go

What are the other terminals for Graham
one is an 80v output, the other a 50v output - you also have one for a carbon arc brazing torch, but they were hateful things ... your amperage selector has two ranges - one for the 50v terminal and one for the 80v terminal - lift and turn to select

bloody wet here this morning .... only said to Pam yesterday, we've had no dew for three days - made up for it this morning - everything soaked misty sort of drizzle on off through the day
first thing on the agenda was - make it fly :ROFLMAO:
WP_20251013_12_10_08_Pro.jpg

was only a short flight though :(
WP_20251013_12_11_39_Pro.jpg

then re-sling it ......
WP_20251013_12_14_10_Pro.jpg

WP_20251013_12_15_16_Pro.jpg

to flip it over
WP_20251013_12_16_25_Pro.jpg

the right way up ...... for more flying lessons
WP_20251013_12_20_30_Pro.jpg

perfect landing ... so's I could get all way round it without having to clamber over everything
WP_20251013_12_25_26_Pro.jpg
WP_20251013_12_29_27_Pro.jpg

and it was MIG time - again ... more random welding, keep the hot spots down - all done and back on the floor, for yet more re-slinging for the next bits
WP_20251013_13_30_08_Pro.jpg
WP_20251013_14_06_26_Pro.jpg

it was upright - trick of the lens ...... then you guessed it flip time ...
WP_20251013_14_14_45_Pro.jpg

and get the other side done ........
WP_20251013_14_29_02_Pro.jpg

and parked it ready for relocating to its new home - as and when .....
WP_20251013_15_40_42_Pro.jpg

and yes I know the tie flats're off set .. deliberately to match what's in there as the old railway lines under it aren't set in the pit:rolleyes: square ... had to be careful setting them up as they'm all odd dimensions :(
and whilst I had her stretched out ..........
WP_20251013_15_48_12_Pro.jpg

gave her the once over and topped up the hydraulic tank ... not checked it in a while and had to put 20 lts in there - fook knows where it's gone 'cos t'ain't on the floor (it had another 160lts in the tank to play with ) .. I'd like to know WTF it has gone though - at 600 quid a drum for Plantohyd, that's 60 quids-worth of oil - I know some went into some lines for Mog's winch, but not 20 lts
stuck 70 lts of cherry in her, topped up the sump with half a litre of Rimula and the coolant wanted a litre ... have had a buzzer going intermittently for a while and it could well have been that - t'ain't going any more :giggle::giggle: - i'll know next time WTF it's for, as it's bloody annoying, especially when I couldn't work out what was causing it
Wrapped her back up and parked in her usual spot, just in time for tea :giggle:(y)

I stand to be corrected here but I think that the higher voltage is better for welding thinner materials with smaller rods.

Druid - is this correct?

so summat different today .... and not what I'd intended to be doing, but more on that again

had a friend round yesterday who I'd not seen in a while and we were yapping/looking at summat, stood on the wall by the steps, when he suddenly started to 'vanish' into this ....

it's had a 32mm timber decking top on it since I built it in 2011 which has been getting progressively 'riper' for the last couple of years and I've been meaning to replace it, for some time -- have had half a whiskey barrel sat on it, keeping ppl off it for some time ...
anyway he managed to set a foot on the one edge and it gave out ... fortunately I caught his shoulder as he caught himself and he didn't end up too far in there - unlike the whiskey barrel .
bloody lucky he didn't get hurt more than a few grazes and bruises .. could've been a lot worse - that pit is shoulder deep on me and collects several land drains together, to fire them off down the garden.
so slung an old bit of ply and some plate over it yesterday, keep the cats out of it - don't want them going exploring the 12" outlet pipe and having to rescue them :( or anything else that might fall in there, for that matter

so wound up the 'Drema and hauled out a piece of 8mm plate I had parked (was going to use a piece of 6mil, but the effort of extracting it from where it's currently sat was waaaaay too much grief) .. so plate clamp on the 8mm stood beside the 6t tipper and out it came, for a 'flight' to the bench

some careful surveying of the sump later and I knew what needed doing
WP_20251018_14_18_52_Pro.jpg

can't recall the last time i had the lid off the sump, although it was made for easy removal, in the timber version, it rarely gets lifted - usually for Clara to peer into it, but she's gotten out of that habit soooooome time ago :giggle:
I've only ever needed to clear it out once, since it was built and there was very little accumulated in there anyway, so thought -sod it - make it a semi-permanent lid - and have done

next step was haul out the plasma, fire up the genny and fill the compressor's tank - then get it lopped to size
WP_20251018_15_06_50_Pro.jpg

then pack it all up again  - that's a 32A extensinon lead for the plasma -- makes the genny change note a bit
WP_20251018_15_16_20_Pro.jpg

not the flattest of plate, 'specially after it'd had the Plasma down two edges and although the 8mm didn't really need some ribbing for strength, it needed it, to get it flat again ....
so lopped some 50 x 6mm and got them set up
WP_20251018_15_35_18_Pro.jpg

tacked the ends and them applied some suitably placed 'force' to get the centres in contact with the 8mil ........ and nailed it :giggle:
WP_20251018_16_40_12_Pro.jpg

and dated it :giggle: ... had a quick try at flipping it, by hand - lasted all of two seconds - plate clamp and the 'Drema didn't even blink :ROFLMAO: .......
went round the edges as necessary with the Ferrex 5" to de-burr/soften the edges and it was ready for some more flying lessons .....
with a little help from my friend .. the 600kg magnet - great bit of kit
WP_20251018_16_59_46_Pro.jpg

and off we went heading for the sump .....
went in like a glove, like it was made for the job :ROFLMAO:
WP_20251018_17_09_08_Pro.jpg

Magnet's release handle bit my thumb, letting it off :(- reaching over from the wrong side - my own fault for being dull - will NOT do it again  - quite a force on the release spring :rolleyes:
put the barrel back in position as Squeak loves to sit/lie out on the top of it (which is also getting very ripe too :() and it's a good place to keep the kid's footballs and hoola hoops, etc.
by the time I'd gotten things tidied up 'my side of the trellis' , Pam'd re-installed the ground cover :giggle:

and I'm out of pix ....... again !!!

Must have been a rush job for sure.

Where’s the paint?
well I did consider a coat of bitumen, but it'd have needed a blowlamp yesterday .. like tar ... really needs to stand in the sun for a few hours, to get it out the drum ...... so it just went in
