I'll tell you a tale now of the end of last week (as I've been snowed under and forgot to check the thread till now!)
I booked Thurs & Fri off to go and do a spot of moonlighting at my old employer. Nothing like the thought of swapping some labour for an aircon unit
Left home at 8.15 on Thurs, arrived at the offices at 9:05 having sat in traffic on the M4 for 30mins. So left at 08:00 on Friday and arrived at 08:25. Yep. FML.
Decided that as I'd been paid, I'd best change the front tyres on the D3, so swung round the corner to the tyre place I used to use and then walked back to the office.
Looked at my watch at 17:50 and realised that I'd a) forgotten to ring and check and b) they hadn't rung me to say they were done! In a panic rang their number and got the "Sorry, we're now closed" message. Fiddlesticks. Dashed out the office and trotted round while trying to raise Steve the owner of the business, for whom luckily I'd done some website stuff in the past for! Luckily as I was coming through the gates to their yard he rang me back and said they were still open, and now the random landrover in his yard made sense!
Headed back to the office to properly wrap up things, and then headed back to my normal work to collect some lego I had bought off Amazon. Delivery had been predicted for Tues/Weds, so I'd had it sent to work, only for it to arrive on Friday! Got to the office and realised I'd left my backpack with the laptop and all my other stuff in the other office at old-work! So had to shoot back to get that - luckily they were open till 7PM now!
Coming back out of the trading estate I realised that there was a lot of noise coming from the brakes, indicating that something was metal-on-metal. F*&k.
Got it home and made plans for someone to grab me some pads in the morning as we were supposed to be out early, but then in the morning it was throwing it down so we cancelled that plan and I went into bristol instead (in the Mini). Picked up Brembo Pads+Discs for the front axle for £108 from GSF, not bad if you ask me. When we got home I whipped the D3 up to mum's and then realised I'd lent my trolley jack to a colleage at work, so had to use the damn screw jack to change my pads & discs. Still got that sorted in fairly quick order, I've done it before.
One pad on the Drivers side must have been stuck as it was all gone, but the other pad on that side was fine - so were both on the passenger side. Still, best to change this stuff together so it all got swapped.
Drove away and I still have a squeal when cornering - bearings all felt fine though. Wish I knew what was causing it!
Lego 42095 - £48 on Amazon last week. Good buy - has 2xL Motors, battery box, IR Receiver, and IR Remote in it - about £40's worth of electronics at parts prices.
Will make a nice toy for the kids to play with at the show in November
Built this the other weekend too - going to work on motorising the container lift this weekend;
