I would've too, but as said .. the catering staff weren't happy with the ambient .. new one out the box seemed the most expedient and sort the old one at my leisure ... however ... that one's given 16+ years of faithful, so might not be around when it needs replacing again , but will get the old one sorted, in case.

i think with the interweb and forums there isnt much i will not have a go at fixing ,its the oven this week .after much testing etc ,ruled everything out so must be the circuit board (ovens not getting hot enough)
how long is it going to be where no one fixes stuff ?

Half the issue is no one wants to fix things, they'd rather swap parts easily and send you a bill.

Someone I know drilled 2 holes to a depth of 290 m and today he supplies himself and four neighboring houses with heat

And the neighboring houses pay him for the energy/heat
so with today's electricity prices, the entire plant will be paid off in less than 8 years

That's more geothermal?

Generally over here it's laid in shallow trenches or even one in a lake near here .

heat pumps are awesome. just need spec correctly. Ground source, if you have the space you can lay coils in a shallow trench. cheaper than a borehole.

With some correct sizing, draughtproofing you should get easily 3:1 efficiency, for every £1 of elec you get £3 of heat.

You can go down the grant route but MCS installer just double the price of everything so you end up paying same as DIY. I would expect 5-7k for a mostly DIY install.

throw in a bit of solar for hot water heating and you can mostly eliminate a heating bill.

Stick up a shopping list - that sounds a lot more sensible than the £30k an installer quoted me (with me doing all of the groundworks!).

we are paying just over 3k for the new 9kw panasonic aquera heat pumps. there are cheaper makes mind.

trouble is that oil is a 25-30% the cost of electric per KwH, so even with a SCOP of 4-1 you're not going to save by moving away from most fossil fuels. Pure Electric heating conversion to ASHP/GSHP... well that is a game changer! MCS will add about £2500 on top of a normal ASHP install. The umbrella scheme charge us £1250 and we double that to £2500 as there is a LOT more compliance paperwork and liability involved. With a £7500 BUS grant its still worth it on new builds etc. Not much of a fan of retrofit Heat Pumps.

and that is why I'll be staying with it for the foreseeable, aside from the additional costs involved in changing systems
PLUS .. no leccy = no heat ... atleast with the oil if the leccy is down (a regular occurrence), a little genny to run the boiler is all it needs to stay warm

that's a bummer ... what breed is it ? ... we have an induction Stoves range thing - nothing but problems with it - hates power cuts, of which we have many ... takes forever to get it's head/act back together
