Doesn’t that black bit paint soften is hot weather so any heavy items stick to it or mark it?

yep ... 's why it's the underside Rob ... weather protection from the crap on the roads ... load side is Ali primer painted ( 2 coats so far) .. couple more when installed and might put a couple of coats of yacht varnish too ... tough old stuff against the elements and goes well on top of the Ali with no reactions

I understand the wisdom now. Didn’t appreciate it was all going on one side only.

Local dealer is dropping ifor after 35 years due to poor parts supply and long waiting for everything and anything

so ... very busy day yesterday .. half seven kick off to meet Russ for 09.00 ... reversed onto the guy's drive as Russ appeared from 'the wrong direction' ... bloody sat nav'd taken him the worst route possible - miles of very narrow lanes with a couple of hairpins ... I'd told him how to get there - but sat nav-ed it instead .... at least he was pointing in the right direction to reverse into the guy's mate's drive, where the 'Tachi was parked.
it'd been advertised as a job lot of gear - digger, dumper, buckets, rake, half pack block grab, Whacker and odds.

he'd sold the Wacker and the rake already , but after some thorough inspecting a deal was struck and I stuck the buckets that were sat with it, in the dumper skip.....

and tracked the 'beast' onto Russ's tilt bed....

slew ring good, usual expectable wear in king post, boom base pin and elsewhere, but nowt drastic ... door glasses had succumbed to some hard slamming - 12 month old tracks, one idler wants sorting, everything well greased, drove nicely and strong in the tracks (2sp) .. pretty sure it's a grey Jap import .. has the 4 way valve under the seat to configure the sticks - ISO/SAE/cross/and whatever the 4th setting was ..... didn't get many pix as the guy was in a rush to go to Usk show - just glad we did not have to negotiate Usk traffic - carnage on show day.
so had to reverse back up the road to the sellers house to pick up the block grab off the side of his drive and an 18" edged bucket, got them all secured and led Russ out to a much better route home ... He's 'sposed to have picked up the dumper this morning, but not heard how that went yet ... has a recon 3sp box, push rod tube seals replaced and head gaskets, with a complete set less those items .. 3 pot Lister .... started first flick - cold.
the seller is some sort of engineer .. does a lot of work on power stations .. interesting and very nice guy - lovely house and spot.

then I set to the ifor, when I got back ....

so .. trailer bed ......

offed the tailgate with Lil' Jake .... after disconnecting the number plate light

then fought what was left of the bed out ... no way was any of it gonna slide out ... too much tish in the slides

front end was a bit more solid

but eventually ended up with

a clean chassis ready for a new board --- (and a hell of a mess on the floor - oh for a concrete surface to work on, for that sort of mess, to be able to sweep it up )

Looks a very handy digger and dumper set up for the money, I could keep them very busy at my barn and the 4 or 5 houses (30+ acres of land I recon), almost never having to move them on a trailer! Sounds like the kind of bloke you want to buy kit off as well

so - part two ...
ran out of pix ....
and had a few 'can you justs', when it stopped peeing down earlier

cleaned and ready to rock ... did consider Bit.-ing the cross members, but looked pretty good TBH ..... plus it was 30C here yesterday afternoon and I was melting .. was 25 when I left to meet Russ at half eight in the morning

recruited Pam to have one side of the board, as it was, as Rob said, becoming a little soft underneath, in the heat. went in sweet as -- I'd tried it for size with an off cut from another 18mm board, 'fore going for it and it was a good fit everywhere.

black mark is where I caught the underside of the board the other night with the roller, doing a coat takes some covering after - Bit.'ll bleed through anything
lifted the tail gate back into position ... reckon it (the board) might just have gone in with the gate in place

then a n other coat of ali ...

followed by number 4 an hour or so later ........ followed by 'the clear up'

then onto my favourite job
hell this has grown this week

followed by a full Dane-ing of the both sides of the drive ... after tea

getting dark by the time I'd finished so ......

time to despatch the Ifor's old floor ... bloody smelly old stuff that Phenolic and had some sort of 'rubbery' coating/skin on the underside ... @Gunners 'll have an idea what that was .. tells me he's done the board before. deffo a darkness job

a couple of hours and it'd stopped ..... back to 24C now .... few hours of good drying sun and it'll rake up a treat

I cant remember if that trailer had the ex Cala homes marketing hoarding board in it or if I replaced it again in my ownership. I probably covered the underside in bitumen paint so maybe that was what was burning rubber?

nope & nope .. non slip phenolic surface with like a rubber coating on the back/underside ... I'll get some pix ... still got the front 2ft of it .. too big to go in the bin the other night .. will have to cut it up

After sorting the last of the apples for this year .... (rest are cooked and bagged up in't freezer ) ....

made a start on the annual re-coat Wed.s afternoon ..

nice and warm to get the Bit. out the drum ... bit more tomorrow 'praps ... been on the grass, tree trimming and our annual drive tidy today...

not what I had planned, but Pam was determined (and can't handle the blower, for the clean up) ... Dane-ed all the passing places in between waiting on her to do a section to blow clean. Husqy blower makes the tidy up so easy

she loves playing with the strimmer .... and no other bugger does the drive's verges ...
Sad Act next door did try it with the swipe on the back of his baby JD, last year and made a right balls of it (and a bloody mess). too idle to strim it ...

Dane does make short work of all the passing places though (as long as I keep it out the ditch)

Daned the side of our drive on the way back and trimmed a few overhanging trees that I was beginning to have to avoid in the car, after lunch, at three. ...... 's a good barraful

finished off the afternoon with the lawn - AGAIN! .... growing like fook ATM

Tree crud took some bloody burning this evening - bit green ... perfectly still and smoke going straight up ... Pam came up about 45 min.s in and said she couldn't see the lawn for smoke ... obviously going up and the colder air of the evening pushing it back down. " It'll soon clear - don't worry about it -- 's not coming in the house is it "
once I'd got a good conflagration going it didn't smoke long, as the green went in the bin

Couple of questions from someone who likes to minimise maintenance and also has a lot of equipment and property to maintain:

Why not a galvanised replacement floor in the trailer? The only time I see a timber based floor over here is on imported UK trailers. Everything else here is steel and mainly the entire trailer is hot dipped galvanised for use near the coast. (All my trailers are fully galvanised)

Ditto for the shed. Why don't you use a colorbond steel cladding instead of timber that requires tedious painting maintenance. Of course I'm assuming you have the equivalent of Colorbond in the UK. It's very popular here because it's relatively low cost, easy to attach to roof or walls, lasts for ages even on the coast and comes in whatever colour you like. (All roof on my houses are Colorbond or galvanised steel and all my sheds are on both roofs and walls.)

Trailers here are traditionally wood to stop loads sliding about and machines struggling to load.
