Pam's 60th birthday last Thursday .... Wednesday was a 'shopping day' and for once there was loads she liked, loads that fitted her well and the best bit ... just about every shop we went into had a better than half price sale on, so was a half price day ... sort of ..... mind you some of the original prices were eye wateringly silly to start
so she had a great day... my wallet had a bad day .... but she had a big smile on her face by the end of it ....... result
she came down to this at the bottom of the stairs the following morning ..
I'm not a great birthday celebrate-er (Pam is!!).. so she was quite shocked .... especially seeing it in big letters at half seven of a morning .... plus a few extra lil' surprise prezzies, I'd managed to sneak in, that went down a storm .... for a change .... what do you buy the woman who has everything
was going to go see that miller Friday afternoon, 'til I went down to nursery for Clara ....and they carried her out with a serious temperature and I whisked her home for some TLC ....but put paid to my trip out!! and me back, lugging her to the car .....well I got to go and see it today and the 'boss' came for the ride .... thought the birthday shopping had finished last week .... 'twas tooooo close to the Cribbs Causeway Mall ... so ended up there afterwards ... been another bloody expensive day

Lol! My other half has her birthday on Saturday! We're off to see "The Planets in HD" at the royal albert hall on sunday night. Promises to be an expensive weekend!

Well on the decorations. I am grumpy about my own birthday. When I hit 49 I had arranged a few friends around for dinner and told my wife I could gracefully slip into being 50 with no fuss. The following year she went to a big effort to get family and friends around to celebrate. I got wind of what was happening a few hours before the event and kicked off that I didn’t want a party as it was nothing to celebrate.....to be told that was why I wasn’t invited!! Had a great evening!!

Know how you feel. Not a big gathering or fuss kind of guy. Me & H and a nice meal and maybe, if I'm lucky, some horizontal gymnastics later on.

Brisol's bad enough, but at least I know my way around most of it,
From here it's an easy exit to the M4 via sodding chipbury, then up the M4 and a quick dogleg on the M25 & ME to Kingston upon Thames where my sister lives. Park there (free on Sundays) and train in after visiting the nephews!

Ajax AJT1 ... ISO 40 Int. spindle, stepped pulley head
brand new Align power drive on the X axis
DRO on the X and Y ... older unit but nice display ... clocked it with the DTI and spot on ... even the hand wheels agreed with it
nice clean tidy machine .... quietest head i've ever heard
only down side was the metric M16 draw bar isn't with it, only the imperial 5/8" x 11 .... and I've got both metric and imperial tooling .... weirdest draw bar i've ever seen .. two piece thing ...... I'll have to make a metric one, 'cos Ajax want 800 quid for one
and I ain't giving 'em the pleasure of shafting me for that fits the space I prepped for it a treat ..... after we'd juggled the lil' bugger in
will do for a home for it for now

it's a gear hobber Ollie ...... like a cross between big milling machine and vertical borer, but without the vertical tool holder .... they're machining the teeth onto that big sprocket on the rotary table with a shaped cutter
this is a vertical borer where the tool is stationary and the work piece rotates ....
with a miller the tooling rotates and the workpiece is stationary ... gear hobber everything moves .......some masterful setting up gone into that sprocket

aye .... have n't had a 'decent' Happy Birthday to me prezzie for a whileLooks awesome condition mate and a great birthday present
... think me Goldwing was the last one ... an' no one else is gonna buy you those sort of toys ................ unless you have 'em at gunpoint she's 1.7t and that container has a serious floor in it ... 30mm Keruing and a lot of steel under it .. that box was made when they were made 'properly' ... el solido
.... plus it is such a solid casting i'd be surprised to see any issues TBH, but'll keep a weather eye on it .... gotta get a chassis plug fitted to the elex cabinet and wired in to take a flying lead from the genny. If it hadn't been threatening rain, I'd have sorted the chassis plug, 'fore it went in there ..... would've been so much easier with it up on me bench, rather than groveling about on my kneeshad a good crawl over it and have run it, where it came from, before kicking 'em to death on the price
