Not seen proper band cutters before.
Only recently found that a couple of pairs of Bahco adjustable do a really effective job 🙂

Try that on an overtightened monster steel strap in a container and you might get a nasty surprise ...dads got a scar or two 😳

Think I'll give that one a miss 😁

The only containers I get involved with unloading these days come from New Zealand filled with bags of aggregate for ridiculously expensive swimming pools.
I wouldn't even be involved if they could only use "proper" pallets 🤣

Aspirational designers and rich clients...... though to balance things up Cotswold stone does get sent out in containers to Japan.
On a more local scale tippers go East loaded with Cotswold Buff stone and come back with Romsey shingle , and that is proper weird 🤣

The Oz/NZ pallet is unique. It was sized to suit the trucks of the day (ww2).
As an early adopter of pallets, the dimensions became 'locked in' before a 'better' size had been defined.
As I understand it, the Oz 4ft square pallet was made to carry 4x 44's

Interesting 🙂

The main problem we have is that the gap between the slats is too tight to get a hand truck into 🤪

I have had a right bloody 'mare with this new motor

went in week last wed.s, 10 days ago, negotiated the price and a fitted towbar, signed the paperwork and paid a deposit. Was one small mark on the front scuttle they agreed to sort, other than that, was pristine, as you'd expect of a 5 month old motor with 2k on the clock.:)

told the mark'd be sorted by last Friday/Saturday latest, and towbar'd be ordered and fitted.
Told 'em no panic, tax it for the 1st March and we'd collect it the following Wed.s, late morning.(y)

Bank was a PITA over transferring the bucks on line, week last Thursday, even after phoning them first, to warn them of a large transfer taking place, they said no, can't do that much :mad:

Had a meeting with my solicitor, last Friday at 09.00, so was in my branch after, by half ten and transfer sorted by 11.00. .... Told it would be immediate as theirs was same branch .. at the very slowest, max 2 hrs. so paid for by lunch time.
Emailed 'em (the salesman I'd been dealing with), when I got home about noon, confirmed payment and intention to collect on the 1st March.
No worries, should be fine.(y)

sorted NFU out for insuring it from 1st March and paid for that.

went in Wed.s, 'bout 12.45, after Pam'd returned from a 'hair cut' .. no salesman  .. spoke to his sidekick

"oh he's off today, can I help? "
"we've come to collect our motor as arranged "
" er . .. which one'd that be? "
" the one I can't see any sign of - black '72 plate Sportage .. we were in here buying last Wed.s, when I last spoke to you too "
"I'll just go ring Rhodri " (our salesman)
" er .. it's still in our body shop "
" 's only a small mark Zak, couple of hrs work at the outside ... Has the tow bar been fitted? "
" it's here, don't know if it's been fitted yet and we're still waiting for the wiring pack .... to come from Belgium " FFS!!
" it would've been courteous to have been kept in the loop on this ... especially as there was no mention that it would not be ready to collect, as arranged today !! "
" should all be sorted by Friday, latest .. we'll let you know "

no comm.s yesterday ... rang them late afternoon ...
" Not heard anything from Rhodri "
" Hi this is Zak again ... he's off again today. I'll get him to contact you in the morning " (you would think that the 1st/2nd March, they'd have all hands on deck to out the couple of dozen new motors sat about the place :oops:o_O)
" What's the position with the motor? .. I paid your company in full for this a week ago and want to use it this weekend "
" well I collected it from the body shop this morning so it's here "
" so it's collectable Friday then? "
" I'll get him to call you first thing in the morning, but should be able to pick it up late Friday afternoon "

no call this morning and no response to an email of Tuesday, either, saying that we'd be in this Wed.s lunchtime to collect, unless we heard otherwise 🤬

I have now gone from disappointed to bloody miffed.
Called about 11.00, having given him a decent enough amount of time to get his act together this morning.

" Hi Zak, can I speak to Rhodri please, it's Graham Hookham about the Sportage "
" errr .. he's not at his desk, I'll tell him to call you back when he comes back "

Nada ... rang again lunchtime .. same story
" Zak, I am no longer disappointed with him, I am now officially annoyed .. he needs to speak to me "

Nadao_O
rang again after I'd collected Clara from school, about half three ...
" he has someone with him .. just gestured he'll call you back in two minutes "
" Is it ready to collect ?? "
" well ...... if you'd like to pick it up... then bring it back next week to get the tow bar installed .. Rhodri will call you back shortly and explain "

at five o'clock after an hour and a half wait for Rhodri's return call (in 2 minutes), Zak got both ****ing barrels ... he assured me that Rhodri would speak to me before he left at six.
You guessed it NADA :mad::mad:🤬

been on the DVLA website earlier .. see if it'd been taxed, 1st March .. has it f**k ... still showing taxed 'til Sept. so obviously not registered to me yet. 😤😤

Rhodri is going to need his tin hat in the morning ... he can either do it in the showroom, which is likely to be VERY public, or we'll go discuss this sorry performance with his manager in his manager's office
I am ****ing tamping tonight .... 😤😤

what had been a fairly pleasant and convivial experience, up until the point they had my money, has turned somewhat sour ....
Pam is very pissed off and upset that I now have yet another parcel of crap to deal with.

Why can people not just grow some balls and tell it like it is ...
hiding just makes the crap fall from an even greater height, where I'm concerned ...
I really detest being blatantly lied to.

I spent 30 odd years being straight with customers .. if it wasn't going to happen, on time/whatever, at least they knew. Always found it better than getting yelled at, later down the line ... and when it was earlier than expected, everyone was happy too.

semi-rant over :rolleyes::mad:

Ask to speak to the dealer principal and demand a full refund (courteously!). It’ll show you mean business. If nothing else it ‘should’ generate some goodwill (they might lend you something until yours is ready - possibly electric and rocket-ship fast?!?!).
If they don’t get their act together then take the refund as your ownership experience will be soured from the outset and any future niggles will feel much worse than they are.

Buying stuff from salespeople is so frustrating. The chances are you’ve done your research before parting with a significant sum of money and probably know more about the product than the person selling it. Then when things go south the excuses start and everyone else gets the blame!

went in at half twelve, ready for some manager's office floor wiping, with said salesman.
He'd gotten the message from Zak that he had REALLY pissed me off and I'd be likely to want his head on a spike. :ROFLMAO:
couldn't have been more courteous, full of apologies, etc. .. yeh - I know -- he didn't really have much choice
car washed, cleaned, taxed and sat ready at the front for me ! :)
went over it with a fine tooth and found now't to my displeasure .... young Rhodri was well surprised when I popped the bonnet and insisted on checking the oil level. (you never know??) .. he said not many ppl even know how to pop it.

anyway ... it's ...... sat here and what a lovely thing it is .... after finding such a nice specimen, getting 680 quids-worth of tow bar, fitted, (when the bloody electrics arrive), in on the deal and taken the ear ache from SWMBO, I really did not want to start again guys.
had attitudes been different on arrival there, it would have been a very different story 'praps ..... but I wanted this to happen :)

WP_20230304_13_43_16_Pro redacted.jpg

when the 'lectrics arrive, it'll go back for its bar, etc. ...
and I'll see if I can blag the 23 plate EV6 GT line, that was sat on charge there this morning, for a couple of hours, whilst they get their mitts dirty under this. :giggle::ROFLMAO: Watch this space

He might, after the amenable 'lecture' on customer service/care, he got from the both of us, consider being a lot more communicative/up front, in future, when things don't go as planned , (Pam was, amongst several other roles with BWW, head of customer services/relations, for the S Wales area and I spent 30 odd years with my meet & greet/customer care head on). ;)

We all parted on good terms anyway and he understood, just where we were coming from, with the importance of keeping folks in the loop. Don't think he could quite 'get a handle' on the two of us though. :giggle:
