was supposed to be doin' the last twenty feet of me drainage channel today .......that was yesterday's plan

didn't happen that way today though .... been a looong day.

Pam's oldest cuz, who's been real unwell for several weeks, following yet more treatment for cancer, has not had a good day. Although his brother has been doing his best to care for him, together with a lot of input and visits from Pam and I ... plus the attentions of the local district nurses and carers from one of the cancer support charities, decided today that he needed to go into a hospice for more intensive/comprehensive care .... and to give his brother, et al , some relief from the responsibilities of it all.

Sorting that today has been pretty intense, ..... but we managed it and he now has 24/7 care ... and his bro., who is mid 70s can have some rest, physically at least.
TBH, I can't see Ken coming home again, sadly.

Sorry to hear that mate, never easy. If he ever gets a dry mouth because of the meds or treatment let me know as it’s one of the products I import and I’ll send you a load up.

Thank you @Charlie, you're right there Boyo - been there so many times ...... very much appreciate that kind offer ..... he has all sorts of things for that already ... possibly one of your products even ....
he has had 'lumps' developing all over his body, these last few weeks, two of which have manifested on his tongue , making his life very uncomfortable and 'difficult' .... he'd been on a new experimental immunotherapy treatment for several weeks leading up to this ... and it seemed to be doing the trick ........ for a while at least, but the tumors have gotten the better of it ... and Ken

Pam and he share the same birthday/date, a couple of decades apart ... I doubt Ken will see his 81st, on the 20th of next month
he and his brother have done very well to enable him to stay at home as long as they have ..... but they're both exhausted and living as remotely as they do, takes us 10ish minutes to get there - probably seven in a hurry, in the dark ... professional help, much, much longer
I've always been top of their list of phone numbers, as I always have it with me, but now just waiting on the inevitable call

Welp, at 80ish he's done well to make it that far! At least, that's the way I look at it. I'm happy to be outlived by H, though the way she drinks and smokes I doubt that will happen!

I hope he doesn't suffer too much at the end - frankly that's the worst bit of these illnesses, and you're not allowed to do much to help

H's mum has already said she's got a stash of pills ready for when her time comes. Though it's H's dad who we are more worried about right now - his prostate cancer has reared it's ugly head again. I'm off up to see them now in Ystrad

Aye he's done well, apart from the last ten years of fighting one form of the big C or another .... as you say the end game is the saddest part, but TBH ten years struggling it, is enough for any one.
Always got enough morphine and opiate based stuff here to down a herd of rhinos, so no need to 'collect' ... lives in a very high cupboard, even Pam has to stand on a chair to get at.
Have a good run to Ystrad .... Steam rally weekend in Aber., Sunday/Monday and town was manic yesterday afternoon/early evening with some big stuff rolling into town, causing traffic carnage ... weekend forecast is good for a change ... beautiful here this morning ... Aber.'ll be a no go area today, for sure .
May well be heading into town later in the day to see Ken, so might have a wander around the park after, see what's there this year.

That load must be over 30 tonnes there is no way that that lorry and trailer weighs 14 tonnes and I think in the UK you have to have a 3 axle unit to get to 44 tonnes

Yep, good run up to Ystrad except got stuck on the M5 as the missus wouldn't let me reverse back up the slip when I was at the top! Would have been quicker to duck down the back to the old bridge!

Went to ponty with her Mum, don't think we're going to do Aber, I want to do the Trench Lane car boot tomorrow morning though, then will do the Easter Compton one and back up for the Wotton one. Shall see what tools I can pick up!

Her mum & dad are on about moving, but only within the village. Sadly their place is probably only 160ish k in value which wouldn't buy naff all over here. I told em to list their current place for 200 and see if anyone nibbles!

unless going south i always use the old bridge ..... much quicker to come through Itton and down to Chepstow than do battle with the bloody traffic

Unloaded bucket no 7 today .... just about creased me .... been bloody warm here all day
then proceeded to fill no 8 .....

down as far as the pipes which were originally just lying in a trench ---- 'bout 5 years ago and which had mysteriosly back filled itself

then came at 'em from the other end taking the top off in scrapes, which went well 'til I found the duct about 6" higher than the rest , which wasn't helpful to its survival .... water pipes did though as one of 'em is 'live' and cut the bloody duct off out the way .... like wrestling giant spaghetti with that roll of 80mm duct .... and has gone quite brittle

ran out of room in the 7 footer for the last little bit .... should've grabbed the 3 foot Geith and filled that ..... but didn't think of it, at the time.
last lil' bit was a hand job to clear around the far end, which i did after tea .... and dropped the plumbing into spot after clearing all around it to get it low enough ..... bloody ground was hard !!

got a joiner somewhere for the ducting ... otherwise, if I can't find it .. according to my vernier, down pipe is gonna make a decent fitting joint
need some stone next, after i've gotten that last bit of spoil out the trench ...... and emptied bucket no 8

one to make you smile ....... we can never make the bed here in the mornings ..... 'til these lil' buggers vacate it, around lunchtime

and yes Squeak is actually that big ..... he's a lump of a cat !! just over 17 lb last time I weighed him

.... Cheers @Mark .... previous lot is even more interesting - Colchester Mascot or Mastiff .... the latter I think with Anilam DRO. virtually the same machines - different mandrel sizes ... Looks to be a 90mm spindle bore to me, so Mastiff .... Hell of a long bed on it though
think the other one is a Harrison or an XYZ .... job to tell .... may have to have a trip to Port Talbot for a shufty.
nice boxes they're in too ... full side openers ... wrong bloody way round to have been ideal for me to home one, but with full side opening, t'other (end) doors ain't such an issue

Tyres are all cheap start bids at £1 .. spose they want 'em all gone ... disposal'd be expensive .... fair pile of crap too in amongst it all.
will give them a call tomorrow and see about a viewing .... if they went for openers i'd buy the two and move t'other on ... some serious bar stock in with 'em.
the containers are all Pandora's boxes "complete with contents" ... could have some bargains or piles of crap

well had the Birthday boy for a celebratory cup o' tea this afternoon .... None other than @doobin himself with his lovely lady .... Lost in the Welsh hills .... again - text -- "what's yer post code again mate" .... great to see them both ....

missed Pam, who'd just departed for Plymouth with her daughter and Clara, supposedly to visit Shem and Co.

..... apparently she was a tad confused when Vicki went sailing past the Plymouth turn at Okehampton
...... heading for a Birthday surprise week of 'pampering' at a secret Cornish location, with her kids and theirs
... shocked was the best description I think .. did tell her to pack more clothes this morning - "never know what the weather's gonna do Pam"

on the phone earlier, when they got there .. "did you know about this??? " ... " who me -- nah "
........ sadly someone's gotta 'hold the fort' , look after the mogs and maybe/almost certainly, take 'that' phone call .... might get down there for a day or so perhaps ... we'll see

was a very long day yesterday .... ended about 04.30 this morning after being called back to the hospice at 18.00 ..... we lost Ken at 02.10
