Not old enough to remember coke stoves. We were in portacabins with big gas heaters. Red hot with no guards. Children near them were sweating, ones further away still in coats and gloves if it were a bad winter.
I'm sure Thatcher thought she was doing everyone a favour stopping the milk, she probably remembered it from her time. I still don't even drink cold milk.

big old enamelled things 'bout 3ft square and a 4 ft tall, with a cage around them ... pumped out the heat and kept the school warm, 24/7 ... bucket of coke nuts beside them. .....
I only drink milk if it's cold out the fridge ... don't know how anyone can stomach it warm

Yes I remember having those milk bottles at school, I also remember during the school holidays helping the milkman do his round our road and the next road down, Riding on the three wheeled milk float, I can also remember the milk on the doorstep with the top pecked off and the cream nicked by the birds! What a great time to grow up in though no WOKE crap then!

I remember the 1/3 of a pint bottles of milk at school. We used to have light blue plastic straws that we would poke through the silver metal tops.
My parents used to keep the tin tops at home. I presume they went to a charity i will have to ask

School milk, paper round and milk round on a four wheeled electric float rather than the 3 wheeler!!
As for the milk bottle tops, at 10 I managed to knock my 2 upper front teeth out and the dentist pushed them back in, folded a milk top in half and used some junk to hold the teeth in with the milk top on show holding it all in!!! I was called bottle for quite a while after that!!

It might have been a Blue Peter appeal for the tops I seem to remember, possibly for Guide dogs.

Yep the tops were saved for the Guide Dogs, Infact I still save all of our tin foil as a friend of mine collects it for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

out and gone at 06.30 this morning ... road dead quietta -- leaving here at half six, for a journey that on a clear run can be done comfortably in 50 min.s ... should make the Malpas roundybouty, for the M4, by 07.05 and usually much quieter past the docks turning on the 48 ... Pentwyn to there is a PITFA
the real PITA is the trip from the Heath to Llandough ...... Caerrrrdiff has changed so much .... used to know it so well ........ and now
came up behind a guy dawdling along, just outside Aber on the Ponty rd., getting ready to blast past him.....and he took off like a scalded cat ... closest i got to him, after that, was about 50 yds, for most of the run into Malpas ... drove well fair play .... he was on a mission, as was I ... 07.08, joining the M4 and 07.40 parking in the Heath's multi storey .... in 'the tube' by five to eight, canulated and stuffed with imaging dye. and they woke me up sliding me back out at 09.00 loudest scanner I've been in .... seeeeeeeeeriously noisy beast .... sounded like an old Petter single concrete mixer at one point
... don't recall much after that - was gone!! took close to an hour to navigate from there to Llandough hospital for the second appointment .... early booking in and as no-one else'd arrived, got seen first
..... on me way home by half eleven and made bloody great time, 'til I got within a mile of Aber. and hit the arse of a loooooooooooong tail back
gave it a couple of minutes and it weren't going anywhere, so three pointed it and back tracked to a side road, then into Aber through a few lanes .... bloody good job I did ....

got passed by a bike a few miles before, but TBF he was riding well and'd hung back 'til he was sure I'd seen him, as I wasn't hanging about either. Saw him the second he appeared in me mirrors.
God knows why they closed the road for so long, with zero injuries?????
..... 's a bloody busy trunk route home in time for lunch
and spend the afternoon with Harper, before picking up Clara from school. ...... Now officially bollo-ed

It's the latest thing...same up here. I got stuck for an hour coupe of weeks back. Some prat had twatted the armco . After an hour they let us past his car still in same position and him stood with highway plod.
One bloke no injuries no ambulance ...
