Can we donate money to the cause in return for banning Uncle Alb's off here.... he is very old you know and past 9pm he should really be in bed asleep 😂 Currently he seems to stay up past 12pm on this forum and no doubt plotting how he will run the country after the 12th
watch you don't start a bidding war:unsure: ........ you won't win :giggle::LOL::ROFLMAO:

How come he seems to know what the weather is doing at midnight every night then. I wouldn't have a clue what happens outside between 10 and 6 unless it wakes me up
'cos I've always functioned perfectly well on 6 hrs a night Jim ;)(y)...... gives me 18 a day to be busy with :giggle::giggle: .... if I go to bed 'fore I'm tired/ready I have a s**t night's sleep :( .... was always up for 6 when I worked .. I concede to 7.15 most days, these days

so ......... as you see above the SEC got a lift out of where it was sat in Ollie's old trailer, for a trip to me bench :giggle:

Took Clara to nursery for 9 and got back for some brekky and drag me 'working rags' on .... Pam says "you're not seriously going out there again today?" was seriously brass monkeys again this morning with a small hooley howling, but it had to be done .. woolly hat today though ... my ears suffered yesterday :(

sat the SEC down by me bench and relocated the 80 mm pins, ready for action
WP_20191205_12_04_55_Pro.jpg

picked this up off the bench first, to check it'd fit ... was pretty certain it'd go on ... but yer never know :unsure: ... 'til you try when you're building on a tight tolerance

WP_20191205_12_10_00_Pro.jpg

dropped it back on the bench .... and slung it for a trial fit .....

WP_20191205_12_18_06_Pro.jpg

Alignment doesn't get any better than this ....:giggle::giggle:

WP_20191205_12_21_02_Pro.jpg

pins went in sweet as ......

WP_20191205_12_30_28_Pro.jpg

gonna need a slight chamfer mod on the one 70 mm when I fit the bosses .. but only slight ...

WP_20191205_12_22_38_Pro.jpg

then it was back on the bench for a full weld up consolidation ... once i'd got the brace in place and stitched into spot .. and got the G clamp out the way ..

WP_20191205_13_03_23_Pro.jpg

'fore it got the hot stick  ...... was way too breezy today for me MIG :(... didn't bother with any pix of the weld up process ... you've all seen me welding before 😆 .. suffice to say it got well vee-ed out and burnt in ;)(y)

WP_20191205_14_18_44_Pro.jpg

70 mili. pins secured and it got lifted back into the SEC ..... re-pinned with the 80s and got airborne ...

WP_20191205_14_39_48_Pro.jpg

might put the adapter back on t'other way round  (as originally planned) when it comes off again for bossing up and some shiny tish .... difficult to tell which is optimum with a 'floppy leg' ATM...

Parked it on't bench, in readiness for getting de-oiled, possibly tomorrow ...
gotsta get all (as much as poss.) of the mineral oil out of the ram and plumbing, ready to get 'converted to Plantohyd bio. and minimize polluting the 'Drema's tank full of bio. ......... before dashing off down for Clara .... Pam's not 'well' ATM ... barking like a dog, so is sensibly staying in the warm, indoors !

WP_20191205_14_46_35_Pro.jpg

'Sposed to rain tomorrow, so may have t' wait ....
Little un'll be here again at 7.45, so after I've taken her to nursery, I may well set up the Ajax with @Rob65 's chuck I had off him and have a session boring out a load of bosses ... got a good dozen or more ready for opening up to 70.2 mil. for this and a few other att.s that've been awaiting their bosses for some time .... Clara's only half day tomorrow though .. see how it goes

One thing for sure .... SEC's gonna be a beast you'd not want to upset .... and it might develop a taste for Ford Rangers :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:;) .. would shake 'em like a terrier with a rat :p😆:ROFLMAO:

Question not criticism, Graham. Did you consider modifying the top bracket of the SEC rather than making up the adapter?
yeh, Robert, spent a lot of time looking at it from all angles :rolleyes:... 80 mil pins at 18" ctrs ... 325 mm gap ... considered machining the pins down to 70 x 280 in the centre on the front pin and installing an alternate 70mm back pin ... but no room ... ctrs are so much different that even offset machining both to 70 I'd still be 30mm too much spread :(
Did consider removing all the rear bosses and plugging the existing 80 mm holes with some 25 mm blanks deep vee-ed and welded in. Then bushing the front pin down to 70 with some top hat bushes ... then hole-ing the rears at 70mm x 400 ctrs to the front pin and creating some suitable new bosses for the rear.
Those existing rear bosses'd have taken some removal though.

Also considered removing the upper parts of the cheeks with the bosses as a whole and replacing them with new cheeks, suitably holed too. Lorrawork !!:rolleyes:

The adapter route means I can use it perfectly satisfactorily and it still maintains its original spec. (y).... now't like having a an att. pissed about with to devalue it :( .... the geometry's not critical like a bucket would be .......
and as a bonus ... that adapter'll fit any 80 mm x 18" x 325 mm cheeks on anything else too ;):giggle: ....
like the B20 adapter I made ... it'll pick up anything B20 fitted .... and there's very little aftermarket value in B20 stuff in the UK ... also pretty thin on the ground too :cry: ... B20 must be the lowest build height of any hitch ... and built like the proverbial brick crapper ... I have two B20 buckets, hence the adapter route originally ... and the 'Drema's never gonna break 'em ... came off a 20t Akerman :giggle: but she handles 'em well(y):)

Sadly it has absolutely pi**ed down here since the early hours, so not done a lot either :(
looking like it might clear shortly, :) so Ajax time after a bite of lunch (y)

well it did stop and I ran the genny up .... after setting up for a 'boring' afternoon :giggle: .... got 13 done, which I had cut previously ... would've cut some more, but it was dark by the time I'd gotten through the pile I already had ... job for tomorrow 'praps ..... left the Ajax set up in case ;) ... then found a set of four I'd done ages ago, which i could've stuck on the adapter yesterday (a).. if I'd known they were there and (b).. hadn't had to dash off to collect the little 'un at 15.00 ... day shot after half an hour in the park next to the school

one of the quietest turrets I've ever stood next to Mike .... back gear has a little tick occasionally, but direct it purrs .... that was in back gear obviously, at that speed ...

Just been on with same job myself, last night ended up boring some 60mm holes out to 80mm in milling machine. I’m no machinist so a bit of trial an error involved with boring bar choice. I was getting a lot of chatter when taking cuts unless very small with I’d say a near enough identical setup I.e vertical boring bar and same fixture. My weapon of choice was a Bridgeport running at a bit more rpms 240 to be exact. With a 0.003” feed rate on quill, as the knee isn’t motorised. The results were slow and not very clean. Changed to a horizontal mounted cut down lathe tool fastened into holder (brazed carbide insert) and was farming along with at least 0.030” depth of cut (1mm ish for those who are metric) leaving great results still slow job though as had to bore 60mm deep each pass. Wishing I’d burnt out the bosses and welded new ones in I think?

I’d be interested if you had any words of wisdom/ details of settings you were using? That would be greatly appreciated. 😃

Regards,
Matt

that was 49 rpm and .016 feed rate, on the quill too, but didn't have to take a great deal out so circa 15 thou cut to get to the desired 70.2mm and only 20mm depth ....
could probably get away with doubling the spindle speed, but the faster you spin it the more centrifugal influence you'll get, on the vertical tool (and possible chatter) so keep the tool as short as possible ..... not so a horizontally mounted cutter though ;) and no flex in the cutter shaft
these machined out pretty well, on one pass, but slow at that speed  .. they'll certainly do for what I want them for (y):giggle:

I assume you're machining bucket bosses ... still in the cheeks? ... must've taken some careful setting up :oops:

Yeah cut the cheeks off the bucket and then set up in mill. Indicated center then installed boring head. Had to enlarge 4 holes as bucket originally fitted a 20ton CAT (old school) and was on 60mm, the hitachi ex165 I have recently acquired is on 80mm hence the change. Glad I acquired the bucket cheap as the jobs barely worth doing when a new 2ft bucket from Geith is less than £1000. But I enjoy the challenge. Glad I’ve got a large mig to fry it back on as the steel is 30mm not the usual 20-25mm stuff. Steel wasn’t monkey metal either! Must have a bit of age to it?

Thank you for sharing your projects I must admit I look forward to the updates, it’s clear to see the effort you put in to get good results. Keep up the good work. 👍

small pins for a 20, yet enormous cheeks  surprised the Tachi is on 80s ... thought the 'Drema wears big pins at 70 mm for a 15 tonner

As for project sharing ... thanks to you for the kind words and to everyone else who takes an interest (y)... be pointless otherwise .. and like the old adage says .. To be honest, the newer cheap buckets are exactly that. Yes a 2" for a 210 is under £1000 but can you really see it lasting

Best buy I had this year was a Esco 2' Rock Bucket and a 4' Geith for my 210 at £300 the pair. Utter Bargain and putting them beside the modern equivalent you soon see why cheap stuff is cheap.
