could the first one be a crank case breather returning into the filter housing, after the filter ?
No idea, comes from below the filter then goes around and drops in the top of the pump

I passed a Sunbelt 8 wheeler plant wagon, on the M62 yesterday and it was loaded front to back with WN wacker plates, no idea on the model numbers but all looked Diesel F/R, guess it was on the way to euros?

Anyone any ideas on a starting issue. Started this morning but then cut out.
Little pipe behind the air filter box had come off but still will not start.
Diesel is probably 8 weeks old

Dpu2540 I assume? Pull the fuel filler cap all the way out and check fuel filter (it's tied to the other end of the string thats tied to the cap)

No string tried fishing it out without luck.
Doesn't seem as much compression on the pull cord as before, could it be an air leak?

Dunno, first step is check fuel filter until you've ruled that out pointless looking any further. Should be able to fish filter out easy enough with a bit of strong wire with a bend on end. There's a fair length of fuel pipe lies in the bottom of tank with filter on end.

Tried with a ss wall tie have to try again with less of a hook.
The pipe came off the priming button (assume its a priming button) that was a small braided pipe with a small dia white pipe which disappears behind the air filter box

I am giving my 2540 a bit of a service as I can’t do much else this weather. How do I change the oil in the exciter ie where is the drain/ level & filler plugs?

Well you can't make it up. Had a brand new 1 del this afternoon started 1st time but wouldn't move. Next thing smoke coming from the belt housing had to put it out. Took cover off and something wedged inside around the size of a C type battery!
New 1 being del in the morning, not having much luck with them!

What's the going rate for a decent secondhand one of these?

And what are the common problems to look out for?

Thanks, I've seen a few up at that sort of price but wasn't sure if they were changing hands at that money.

Not sure I want to throw that much at a second hand one, might be sacrilege to say in this thread but I'm tempted to get a new Lumag for similar money 🫣
