All joking aside it massively depends on market.

Personally my work tends to involve charging lots of money to people who don't want to see me lashing down tree limbs with the saw or flattening the brambles I'm working besides. So stuff gets scratched, lights get knocked off and windows broken..... But we earn significantly more than it costs.

Quite simple - the bucket/attachment is the bit doing the work .. no need to be using the other parts of the machine to do the job! Battering your machine into everything around you is just damaging someone else’s property.

Preventative maintenance is also a good idea………..

Well yeah but even with the best of efforts demo work is more likely to catch your machine here and there over the course of time than golf course work no ?

That said golfers do aim for machines on golf courses!

Did a few years of golf course work, once a ball went in a track mark and some privileged twot made a right fuss moaning on about it, after work I visited a lad in hospital who had just had lump of his skull taken off again to repair some fluid shunt (iirc) - mrs worked in care, anyhow this lad was smiling, upbeat and positive, all in a couple of hours,couldn't of had a starker contrast and it's always stayed with me, reminder to have some gratitude.

If golfers actually aimed for your machine it would be a bonus 95% would miss

When I got my digger, I promised myself to keep it in perfect condition - not just mechanically, but free from dents and scratches.

One year on, and it doesn’t look new anymore. No big dents, but quite a few scratches from moving huge piles of rock. And all that squeezed out grease - not pretty!

I only had 2or 3 machines for years and kept them really clean inside and out.I now have a dozen machines,several trailers etc. I try and clean them if I get an opportunity on site,grease religiously and service regularly,they are looked after as they’ve been hard earnt by myself but they have to work so marks and scratches on dippers etc. happen, the 3cx paint scratches off if you look at it too hard, so the boom and dipper look rougher than they should ,but to be fair stumps,big ass lumps of concrete and such are it’s bread and butter at the minute.
In the past I’ve had a few heated exchanges with dealers when trying to do a px on a deal,my cherished ,really tidy owneropp machine apparently only worth the same as the heap of crap abused ex fleet junk in. the yard,used to really piss me off!Mellowed a bit now and usually move them on privately.

Had the same Simon, dealers px price takes no consideration for service history or overall condition.. they just assume the worst and win big when they get a mint owner op machine in! I have relaxed a little from my real fussy days - day rate times when I had hours to clean and polish while I was sat on hire being paid anyway!
