Depending on the size you want and exactly what your doing I found it worked out cheaper to laminate several pieces of 6mm sheet from parkers just ignore the prices there website displays

shouldn't make any odds on the cost Smiffy ..... steel is sold by weight so 2 x 6mm sheets should be the same price as an equivalent sized 12mm ... if it ain't someone's taking the piss

Just noticed this thread. Funny enough was putting my gantry upright yesterday lunch time.

On the subject of work benches.....been looking for a decent slab for a few years now. Ideally want something 10-20mm thick but it rarely comes up on gumtree etc. I'll probably need to visit a scrappy but I feel that they just fire all their spare steel oversea's to China now so its difficult to find a good piece!

I can get you some second hand plate where are you based and what size/thickness would you want

I priced through parkers and several other companies that I think parkers supply
I know parkers take the piss for small amounts if you want a small quantity calculate the price on the website then add several tonnes to your order recalculate and it will give you an idea of what you should be paying and can negotiate to

I also have a collection of hammers and other tools, up to 10 kg, it seems that they do not need anything, that they are money spent badly, but instead when the need dictates they are available to solve the problems and the various jobs to be solved, every hammer and every form and weight for his work, German hammers, English French from blacksmith's body builder, carpenter farrier carpenter mechanic, mechanic and hydraulic tools, useful to solve jobs and solutions to many unforeseen events

Finally got a few pics of this big straight pain hammer.

No markings on it, but I haven’t taken a wire brush to it, so I suppose there might be something lurking??
Been around here for a long time, not even sure where it came from??
