Yes. We walked to the marina for breakfast then carried on to the secret bunker. My father in law lives near there so he fetched us back

Nice walk that - I did it on a boat a couple of weeks ago and thought I recognised the kit!

tripped over this from an old trade journal this evening in me photo drive .... an awesome piece of engineering in itself .... but a 5M wide rolling mill must be some line :oops:

it's a bearing chock for a roller much like this ..... this is a little un

worked for a company in 1980 who refurbed these chocks and rollers for Llanwern and Portalbot works - amongst other things ....
hot mill stands

used to lance the bearings out of the chocks, to separate them off the rollers ... rebuild the rolls with submerged arc welding in manipulators then turn them back to shape, ...... they had a Poreba that'd swing 40t between centres ......

.....before re-assembling them into new bearings and fitting the chocks ...something like this .......

...... was really interesting work, very varied and I learnt a hell of a lot in the year I was with them .. got some very interesting pix somewhere .. but all 'paper'

The customer who towed the chipper was only going up the road, but we did sell one to a guy who towed it 150 miles.... no idea if it got home ok

Standard loading procedures. Its actually a doddle nowadays the first time i did it i was a bit nervous.

I have ordered some ramps now though

:giggle:;)

I remember going to Cardiff circa 2008 with hilux and ifor Williams flatbed trailer and towing home a Harrison 460 lathe. Got loaded up and set off, all was well until we hit the motorway and got up to speed and immediately got into a tank slapper and only just managed to keep from over turning in the middle of the road. Had to stick to 50 mph all the way to speyside  got the truck now and she never gets over loaded ;)
