It is not about point scoring - I don't want to live under an authoritarian regime. I would like the risks explained to people and ask them to behave responsibly. It is not as if harder lockdowns in other European countries have sorted the problem. Difficult to compare further abroad as it appears to target people differently.
I saw scientists already saying we will have a lockdown again next winter, which only makes sense, if you agree with their premise that if the NHS might be overwhelmed we need to lock down. Given that logic this will happen every year until we can't borrow any more money and go bust.

Comparing infection and death rates from one country to the next is pretty meaningless as there is enormous disparity between testing and recording.

It's all getting a bit pathetic...seen other similar reports. Ok if the gov has set out exact distances for excercise etc but they haven't ...it's down to the officers disgression...

That would be because that's the average age of death, not the average age of death from covid. The two can't be compared as the sample sets will be different. And average age of death may be over a several year period also.

My point is 82 year olds dying (of anything) is entirely normal in this country and making 82 would actually be a reason to celebrate if you lived in some of those countries!

This is a Tiltyshaun fact which may or may not be accurate. Life expectancy of a UK male in 1950 was something like 67. You worked, retired and got your pension for....2 years.
In 2010 that had climbed to 78.....so know you claimed your pension for 13 years.
Is it a surprise that we now have a worldwide “pandemic “ taking out the old and unhealthy. This is not just a UK problem.
Was/is it man made?
Are there several countries implicit with the research that went wrong/rogue?
What has made borders to be closed, furlough schemes to be implemented, money to be printed.

In general our law is you can do what you like unless it is forbidden as opposed to you can only do what you are allowed to do - different mindset than a lot of places. Also we have been against Identity Cards - "Show me your papers" strikes a lot of Brits as totalitarianism.

never had a bean off the state, in the way of benefits/dole/whatever Rory ..... when I became ill in 2010 I got zilch and survived off me savings 'til I sold everything in 2014 .. if yer's self employed in the UK ... ****ing forget any help if you become ill
since then, my additional income's been very limited and am well pissed that my £12-ish K a year 'personal tax allowance' has gone to waste .. ditto Pam's .... be nice to be able to give it to the kids
