Has anyone else actually encountered doctors in real life settings? The one who bought my last place was obviously clever but had next to no common sense. Also from talking to him I can tell he believes what he's told and lacks critical thinking ability. Apparently it's quite common amongst highly educated.

A doctor or epidemiologist is no better than me for assessing my risk to a novel disease. They've never been 3ft in a hole repairing a foul drain which has been leaking for years. They compare every risk back to their suited desk based job. Real life has risks get on with it

This is where politicians should assess the balance from all sides and act.

yeh ..... they've saved my life twice in the last ten years .... and keep me alive on a regular/weekly basis ... don't knock 'em ... they work with the most complex thing on earth and very often perform miracles

I'm not knocking them as such. Just explaining a quirk with the way They think. As to a previous comment when I had my appendix out pre covid I didn't see one person with q mask on. I presume the surgeon did but was out cold by that point. Did you see any with masks on in your last stay @V8Druid ?

Three stays in a year five years ago and plenty of masks about then, not just on the surgeons. Wonder if they knew what was coming?

see i just wear my mask everywhere, why because we have been asked too. Its a pain, its uncomftable but so what just be respectful to people around you, I wouldnt want to be carrying the rona and give it to a load of innocent people in the local shop. Whats to say one of them dont die from my stupidity.

I know people think it's selfish but I refuse to wear one. Only place I'll do it is in the pub to respect the gaffer.
I respect anyone who has worn one of their own accord since the start. Anyone who starts wearing one after the rules change or the "science " changed...

I wear one in shops simply because I don’t want to have to cause more grieve to shop owners who probably have enough on their plates as it is with out having to have the same conversation with everyone coming through the door. Wife works in NHS and has to wear one more or less all day so think I can handle 10 mins in the shop- it comes off the moment I come out though- can’t understand people walking around outside with hardly anyone around and they’re still wearing it- or the funniest I’ve seen is some one driving, no one else in the car but still wearing it!

persuaded 'em I could 'manage' it at home with morphine, tramadol cocktails and plenty of fluids .... they relented and I got let out ... shouldn't have really TBH .. was still very rough and did question my own wisdom on a few occasions, rolling around in agony, but - I was home and isolated big time ....
If I'd caught it I wouldn't be typing this ... my body was at another all time low and I'd have succumbed rapidly...... there were plenty of masks about the place ... ward I was on was locked doors ... and had to be buzzed in/out .... the staff's cleanliness regime was as you'd expect

Things have relaxed quite a bit now it would seem, wife was saying how they have different staff walking between red wards (Covid) and green wards, however there is an exceptionally nice piece of red tape accross the door so that should stop it! She works specifically with the elderly, yesterday she got an email from management saying someone on her team had been tested positive- however because of confidentiality they can’t say who it is- well I’m sure that provides a great deal of comfort to all her elderly patients! Of course it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out who’s off sick. Still, it’s all a classic case of what happens when too many managers get involved...

My uncle delivers medicines to homebound elderly and nursing homes. He drives around town making stop after stop and wears the mask in the car because it's better than taking it on and off every 5 mins. So I'm sure people see him and think the same thing.

Also round London lot of chauffer driven/ uber cars,wouldn't want someone coughing n sneezing in confined space then passenger getting in?

As the panic seems to be dragging on and on there doesn’t seem to be a long term plan, just reacting to media screaming.
Whether you agree with lockdowns or masks or whatever, what is the plan to get over this?
If it is herd immunity, then best to protect the venerable by shielding them and let the economy open up.
If it is wait until there is an effective vaccine How many years are we willing to wait? We haven’t been able to find a vaccine for other covids and if one is licensed shortly, as rumours suggest, it will not have undergone the years of trials vaccines normally have to go through to prove efficacy and side effects. I for one won’t be at the front of the queue.
In the meantime a lot of people who work for the government are still at home on 100% wages, whereas a lot of people who work in areas forced to close by the government are on reduced wages at home and will probably lose their jobs shortly.
My personal view is keep calm and carry on, but regardless of what your view is surely we need a plan to get us out of this mess.
I know it is easy to criticise when I don’t have to make the decisions, but I expected a lot better from a Conservative government, after all they did volunteer for power even if no-one could have predicted covid. Given that, the thought of Corbin, Abbot, etc running things at present doesn’t bare thinking about.

With reference to moving on, I have no clue how to resolve this. It is a truely dire situation, i read today of cases of covid in a Cancer ward with devastating results. Generally while most are safe its deadly thing... I expect another lock down very soon if they dont this is going to grow and grow and grow... It already is.

do you mean your region or nationally Ross? ... we're surrounded here by locked down authorities .... sadly populated on the whole by droids who don't GAF ... think Monmouthshire has done well so far in keeping a lid on it .. but the dull bar stewards need to be kept out/in their own regions or we'll be next .... getting close to locking me gates again ..... not seen today's figures yet

The test is not designed for indicating a case/sufferer. I think the guidance is beginning to change to reflect this. Please explain to me the point in going and testing a whole uni, like Notts or Manchester when we know it's a highly contagious disease in a confined environment with new residents. Reporting when cases locally jump through the roof, when those who were tested were asymptomatic!?! Then use to justify restrictions
