Container foundations

Got a bit of ground thinking of popping 4 or 5 containers on all next to each other in a row. 5 will fit with half a metre or so to spare if all tight. The ground is just topsoil and with clay atm so I'm thinking i need a decent foundation for the corners. What are my options? Dont really want to reduce dig and stone underneath the whole area. I was thinking either 450 square holes down to like 600 or more and build some pillars up finishing just above ground for the corners. Otherwise I thought as I'm stoning infront of the containers i could extend this underneath for a ft or 2 then do a strip at the back a metre wide along the whole length of the 5 containers next to each other. Im not sure they'd stack as neat like this and maybe over time move more.

Whats the craic normally when putting these on virgin ground and wanting a semi neat job?

Probably not a long term solution but all the ones we do are sat on railway sleepers.

How deep you going with these @Lurch ? Im thinking unless deep prob gonna crack and move with the ground? Hence my 450 square pillar thinking. Also i have an old air raid shelter to demo and probably the right amount of spare conc blocks. Just remebered seeing the pics got a few stumps in there won't be rotten enough to easily dig thru yet

I`ve seen all sorts when delivering them, sleepers, concrete strips, shuttered concrete pads, bricked/blocked up pads, steels then the box welded to them, blobs of concrete looked like semi dry dropped with a flag on top.

basically what I did with mine, 'cept I was already down to good solid ground from excavating it flat and then planings on top ...
tall cast concrete 'blocks'/pads one end and HD slabs bedded on top, to 'fine tune' it, to make up the ground's slope and a simple high density 'council' type paving slab on a mortar bed, t'other end, straight on well compacted planings ..
they were 12t coming in here and're probably at least that still ....
not moved in ten years

How deep did you go there about 450?
They look big old pads cant see you having any bother with them. Im hoping for something more like 450 square couple of blocks width ways cross bond each course. Bit of conc in bottom of hole all to get same level

my pads were 600 x 600 slab size and the three boxes share the inner two bearings - only the outers are on their own 'exclusive' pads - as said - not moved a jot since April 2014 and they've a LOT of weight in them
just found a pic of them, 'fore the boxes got dropped on 'em - forgot I'd made up a front corner too

We did 300mm with mesh. been down 3 odd years not cracked and containers pretty much full most of the time
Same as what I do, shutter 2 x 300mm strips just abit wider than container - or if a row of them just keep going! 150mm deep.. doesn’t go anywhere on well compacted ground. Looks nice and tidy

I capped mine with those HD 'council paving' type slabs, 'cos they're hard as hell/like cast iron and make a superb bearing surface, as long as they're fully supported

What would you dig out below the conc to get a good bearing 600mm strip down to decent ground then fill and compact with stone?
