Suspension lift etc will probably mean it's safer to downgrade it. End of the day no modded 4x4 is as stable on the road as when standard.

Unless the mod is airbags!

To be honest Doob, I didn't look at the website, but a standard un-modded Jimny is rated for 1300 kg. As Gaz says, they've probably downgraded the modded ones because of the mods. Possibly also so no-one tries to tow 1300 kg over a field then complains because it gets stuck. Bit like the army downgrading their trucks compared to normal on-road use.

The other thing with jimnys is unlike the old sj that went before them they are not as strong built in the driveline. Good set of knobbly tyres and get rough with them uj's can let go and thats without over a ton on tow. The beauty of them off road is they are not over engineered and heavy as a result but if you want one to last you do have to treat it with a bit of respect.

As much as I love towing with my Iveco. You can’t beat 4x4 and diff lock when needs must. I have taken the rear seats out of the back of the old discovery 1 and it is the ideal, cheap to run, go anywhere vehicle, once you have all the holes welded up to stop the tools falling out!!

I’d have the pick up body, no suspension mods, and keep the rated tow on the road. Even as standard they take a bit of stopping unless you go full “one life live it” weekend warrior.
