It won't be for the plebs, only the special handshake club.
Tbh rightly so.

I've often considered what should be done as and when it happens.... Because to be blunt it's a massive reward for any wanker who has borrowed money with no intention to pay..... And a massive hit for anyone like me that tries to run debt free and within there means.

Ultimately it's going to need to happen at some point, and in all honesty I think the solution is to take an average across all debtors and apply it as a single payment to anyone under 70 with assets under £1,000,000. Be that student loan debt or a full blown across the board.... If you have paid for your tuition yourself or not attended university your eligible .

why under 70 Rory and why the asset cap ?
like you I operated to the best of my abilities to run debt free, always and have paid some serious levels of taxes through life .. why should I not be rewarded too for being debt free now and for the most of my life and not having been a burden on the system ???

We are dinosaurs Rory, That’s what I’ve done most of my working life because I’ve seen some heavy duty down turns and I’ve been scared of having high debts when we get a downturn in the economy and then work dries up. The fact is society on the whole isn’t run like that anymore and it seems to be the norm to run debt heavy with all newish kit .
It’s also really hard to go against the grain when society dictates that you can have everything and you can have it right now .

Personally if you have more than a million in assets and savings then life has not exactly been cruel to you.... The idea of a reset is to give everyone a chance to balance out, not to create a situation where those already on top gain pocket change.

Ultimately I suspect you'd be talking 100-300k a head..... Not enough to change a millionaires life, but enough to give some diligent people a good headstart.

As for the age cap.... If your 70 and still living in a hovel then wtf have you been doing? Literally had the best time to make bank and you are still potless?

Shall we just go one step further and off to the farm yard in the sky for everyone once they reach 70? Would release some much needed housing stock and help the economy no end 🤣
Think there is a film like this ? Logan’s Run?
