I'd not use a carbide in this particular application. Way too much potential for chatter, which will wreck it very quickly. But yes, cheap!

agree to a degree .... the HSS would be a better bet for taking out 5mm ... better once you'd established a 'bore' to run in and won't self centre as well as an HSS .... but for making new holes ... that is a gift

Are you sure they won't fit your quick hitch as is or is it a spring lock?

Tbh the easiest way to change them is to flog them and buy some more and a new headstock for the breaker. Riddle buckets and anything non standard seem to make strong money at auction

I understand your thinking but im happy to mess about with them on a rainy day .... nothing there is urgent and im in France so its not as easy as the u.k re auctions etc and TBH I cant be arsed dealing with loads of questions and hassle flogging them on - rather adapt them - they are even worth more down here on kubota dims than JCB when I eventually get shut.

Also breaker is a good one but its a JCB HM100 so not as easy as a different headstock unfortunately.

Should be a doddle with a mag drill by the sounds of it

UPDATE
Did the dirty and ordered some 25mm i/d 30mm o/d tube and sleeved it over the 25mm pins between the ears, might be a bit of a bodge but
pin centers are the same so picks bucket up lovely and means that if I go back to JCB from Kubota (which is likely) then I can just pull sleeves off
and bobs your uncle

33m CHS x 4mm will give you a 25mm bore, but with a seam (which is removable, with a bit of trickery) and could turn the outer down to 30 if needed ... bet yer hitch'd take a bit more and lose the slop that'd built up in it though

wasn't cheap for what the tube was, but ......... cheap enough for the results achieved, if you follow me

Just done mine, had to buy a longer broach than I had and new dummy pins but only took 1 hour. @druid advice on hand, broach self centred and pins fit like a dream
