As a mature entrant (hopefully with a car licence) It occurred to me that getting a dumper site licence might be a way to go. Ideally through a firm that will then give you work. Greyhound have started learners on to large ADT's but have taken men with previous large tractor trailer experience from farms. I see now though a lot smaller of cabbed dual drive dumpers being used on large jobs. These would be easier to control than a huge ADT, & might be a starting point toward getting 360 excavator training of some size class eventually. I followed one over the Dyfi crossing job while away, saw quite a few there. Dumpers used to be an open seat & driven by anyone who could drive a car, a pretty thankless job, but the arrival of cabs make things better in wet weather. Being able to rotate the seat & controls is an old Aveling Barford idea that seemed to die out, funny how things go full circle. You might be pushing at an open door here because so many East Europeans have gone home lately. A lot of us started on 3Cx's but these seem to be dying out. Dozers are mostly D6 size now - no small ones to learn on but many 360's have a blade. So I guess the best start would either be a mini with a builder or a dumper on civils work. Some firms started guys on NPORS scheme & went to CPCS later on cost grounds. NPORS basic training quite good, but may not open doors for say agency work
Update - some jobs for 1 Labourer & several forward tipping dumper drivers in Sat Shrops Star - Local work Shrews & Wrexham. Saw this as neighbour passes on paper,
