We had a guy in asking for an apprenticeship last week. He just showed up at the door, caught me a bit off guard, I thought I'd give him a chance just for trying and showing up. I asked if he had any CV or references as he was maybe 18 and non local he could have been anyone. He said he had CV on computer but not with him. No problem I said just send it in or email something through. Got an email later that evening from him saying he can't find his CV so had listed some details, his name, age and town he stayed, not street address just town, saying he'd been working in forestry but having health issues with pollen and has to give it up.
I've no idea what school he went or grades achieved, previous employer or anything. I thought if serious he'll phone or come round again and I can get more information but so far nothing. A bit disappointing to be honest. If you can't put the effort in why would anyone put the effort in for you?

Every job Interview I've had have commented on my c.v. saying it's really good and well written.
Which I find amazing considering it's a Microsoft word template that I have filled in with what it tells you to put.
Mostly bullet points.
Makes me wonder what on earth some people have as their c.v.

Crazy isn't it, could just be trying to blag it. Reality is, it would only take a few more mins at his age to knock up a CV Vs type an email to say he doesn't have one.

No! I live in a smallish village 3k pop. Been trading 20+ years and never have i been approached. Always think its strange, perhaps my reputation

used to get a few a month ... very rare any of 'em were any good, when you inquired deeper
had a place called the Allen Davies Training Centre round here, that a lot of youngsters were 'compelled' to attend ... a 'going through the motions' sort of place ... learned little ... and were told they were welders at the end of the course ... had no idea how to turn a set on let alone set it up
best source of youngsters was work experience from school or colleges .... gave a fair chance to assess interest and aptitude for a few weeks ... took on and 'brought on' some excellent lads from it.

Everyone knocks it but mcd's pay good rates and have seen Lidl advertising 40k+ for store managers.

Unfortunately site work tends to bring the idiots who demand north of 200 a day but with a 50 a day work ethic.

Every so often I get asked if any apprenticeship opportunities or shadow me for gas training. As a sole trader I just can’t justify the hoops that I’d need to jump through.

Apprentices are really hit and miss, my mate had the best from the lads class but midway through he just lost interest, started slipping on his coursework using lame excuses then went sick for a while.
I've had a couple of young lads but honestly lost the will with both of them, simple tasks just seem to be beyond young people these days which is unfortunate and that's even if you can get them away from their phones, but too many are growing up watching YouTube/tiktok seeing people earn obscene amounts of money for naff all and what the f is this whole thing with influencers
