During a visit to Ferguson's last month, committee members were told its bid was rated best on quality, but labour costs meant it lost out to a rival shipyard in Poland. " but they'll plough millions into trying to keep it open FFS

" the cost of the two ships now about £460m of written-off government loans and money paid out prior to nationalisation are included. The original contract price was £97m. " they don't deserve to continue, especially not funded publicly

How can a contract end up being 5x times the original figure?!?!

nationalised industry/company ...
more deadwood than productive employees .....
decades ago they halved the labour force in Llanwern steelworks ..
and more than doubled the output in the following 12 months with less than half the previous years labour force
it was like a holiday camp with 90% of the night shifts asleep in canteens, set up like dormitories --
saw it for myself, getting in there with cranes and had an uncle who worked there - the stories he used to come out with'd make yer toe nails curl

worst part of that article is the " government-funded order " going to a " to a rival shipyard in Poland" but they'll plough more millions into closing it than the competitor's quote'll save - without a shadow of a doubt - short sighted, nigh on blind blunderings in Scottish gov.
any saving will pale into insignificance compared to on-costs of closure
