it's been mooted for years .... road toll attached to fuel ... more you do the more you pay ... totally fair 50k driver pays for 50k miles ... 5k driver pays for 5k miles ... would make everyone aim for economical vehicles .... leccy chariot drivers get metered at charge points home or away

Road toll attached to fuel? Bit like fuel duty then which we all think is enough already

agreed ... but ...
say you do 20 miles to/from site daily, rest of the time you're working ...
company reptile does 500 miles in the same day ..
why should you be paying more VED than his co. car, for 1/25th of the mileage ...
who wears the roads out quickest? ...
you have your car at home for leisure time / w/ends ...
Taxed for a day a week's use perhaps and maybe only a couple of miles/hour's use then?
still think it's not so fair ??????

VED is pi**ing in the wind cost wise compared to fuel duty though.

Quite fancy on of those stand on electric scooters myself when they hurry up and legalize them
This is the ultimate answer if I'm honest.

Legalize small electric transport up to 35mph with the same criteria as pushbikes. No license, tax or insurance requirements but a strict ban on there use on unrestricted roads, dual carriageways and roadside footpaths.

I'd have a leccy scooter tommorow. Or a fully leccy bike. To run round local.

I agree .... but proportional payment for usage wouldn't be and would capture all the avoiders too (3/4 million vehicles annually) ... 'specially if the leccy ones were metered/charged at charge point - home or away ... 'bout time they were also contributing to road useage
there are nigh on 13% of road users in the UK who are uninsured ... intro a card system too ... no ins. card - no fuel, of any type

The insurance is even easier.

Government system, everyone with a driving licence pays in....... Repeat crashes investigated and licenses revoked. Simple

The idea I like about a scooter is if battery goes flat or pisses with rain, you can hop on a bus.

not everyone with a license owns a vehicle or drives regularly ...
too open to fiddles and abuse ...
everyone has to be issued with a certificate of insurance ..
make it plastic and specific to policy holder /named drivers .. and vehicles ..
no card, no fuel ...

anyone caught selling black market fuel gets 10 yrs hard labour on a proper chain gang ... stealing it gets you 20 :giggle::giggle::giggle: (double for pikies) ;)

they should be insured, along with cyclists .. together with some form of proper proficiency testing ... cause as much aggro on roads as anyone and simply ride off into the distance ... there should and needs to be accountability for ALL road users

Reality is though grah, ultra regulation results in squat.

There will always be license less pricks..... Better them be on a leccy Scooter where a bad accident results in there death.

Remove Insurance from profiteering companies and put it into a bureaucratic hell hole and the crash for cash claims will soon vanish..... IMHO regardless who's fault a crash is the "victim" shouldn't gain any more than is lost.....

I like the idea of a leccy scootang. Could ride it to site, throw it in the dumper skip and drive home.

I've been really tempted to get another motorcycle with the current fuel prices but think I'll hold on for an elec scoot.
These look way more comfortable than a bicycle. I reckon you might stay a bit dryer with waterproofs on too.

Half tempted to buy one and graft a bike frame on it so it looks compliant
