The proposed lead ban isn't doing older shotguns any favors, basically scrap value

That's what they said of my Baikal. Apparently worthless since the war as no parts available despite being in good condition with our much use. My miroku isn't worth much apparently but is incredibly tight. £200 for a renewal now as doctors won't do medical anymore. So going to go to either brother in-law or father in-law.

You probably know, but just in case, there are independent doctors who will do your medical forms, usually less £`s than your own GP, ShootCert is the one I hear talked about most.

Yeah they are running about £70. The renewal has gone up about 40 quid in 5 years since last time and the medical from the doctors was 30. I haven't used the guns in nearly two years so they can be parked up until a time I have the time and money to start going regularly again. Clays round here have doubled since pre COVID it seems. And rough shooting has just about died a death.

I don't think any of these government studies yet show how bad the situation is. Most the building firms round here are tightening up on weekend work and overtime. Everyone is tightening up in general. My shotgun certificate is up for renewal and I haven't been out shooting in 2 years so I took the guns to sell. They offered bigger all for them as they are overstocked with people selling them and no one buying anything.
If you go to any of the day out type places they are noticeably less busy than in the last few years.
Quite a few of the part time teachers at my wife's school have asked to go full time. The teaching assistants that are qualified teachers have all asked to pick up cover lessons.
Our household bills (including childcare) have gone up about £600-700 a month this year already.
and they say inflation is 'X' (not seen recent figures) but that 👆 tells a very different tale :mad: -- that is 'just' the increase :oops:

SIL is off to somewhere weird with the school and kids in the summer for a couple of weeks - local GP won't do him a medical - has to go up country to some 'specialist' .. hope the school is paying the 200 quid its costing.
can't recall where it is ATM - but would not be my choice of location :oops:

Steep or bismuth both at greatly increased prices.

I think it's getting really bad tbh. The soil testing company that works for us lost 2 blokes as they left for 17p an hour more. Very few people seem to make pack lunches but lots are changing from McDonald's and the likes to meal deal. Still seems to be plenty of work but all the companies seem to be getting themselves lined up for hard times which makes the hard times worse for those at the bottom of the ladder

Yeah always the labourer with 30 quids worth of sweets out the petrol station every day.
I bought all the pads on site a drink last week. Only a bottle of coke each and it made my eyes water. No fridge on site ATM or I would buy a multi pack in the morning rather than out the fridge in the shop.

Chatting about shotgun certificates. Just finally got mine for first time in Mid 40s. Took 6 months from start of application process and had a firearms officer come round for a chat in my house to check security and about a heated conversation I had with my ex in 2010, to be fair they were doing there due diligence. Apparently 35000 people in Devon and Cornwall hold shotgun certificates/firearms licences.

6 months !!! Maybe I should just shell out. I've got 4 months to decide.

Jar of coffee and flask of hot water along with chicken breast wrapped in bacon leaves home with me everyday.
VAT on school fees means savings have to be found somewhere!!

I'm interested to know does anything go with the chicken breast.
I sometimes do homemade sausage rolls, but usually it's sandwiches. I do have a heated lunchbox though in case we have leftovers.
BBQ chilli with some tortilla chips is good. Pulled pork quesadilla is awesome.
It's like a mini oven so things come out crispy and not soggy like when microwaved.
Takes 45mins so quite important to remember to plug in.

Just chicken breast wrapped in bacon bacon and cooked in the air fryer. I don’t add salt or sauces!! Cut into slices and nibbled on during the working day. Dinner at home is usually a steak, if I am lucky…..2 steaks!! Looking forward to this Friday as we will fill the freezer with one of our dexters that are grass fed. Best steak out there!!

the rot continues .......

" An anonymous whistleblower is alleging large-scale fraud on the HS2 project. ........ supplying self-employed CIS workers while charging an inflated PAYE rate and using fraudulent offshore payroll companies to process these bogus payments. "

" Investigations into large-scale labour fraud on the HS2 project are expected to widen now that the national media has picked up the story. ...... on 25th May, Danny Sullivan Group (DSG) had been suspended from working on Balfour Beatty Vinci’s West Midlands section of the project pending investigations. DSG was one of the labour suppliers named in the whistle blower’s letter."

some developers have 50 years-worth of land banking, to go forward on ...
" Local Government Association (LGA) housing spokesperson Cllr Adam Hug said: “We are pleased the government has acted on the LGA’s call for it to be easier for councils to penalise developers and acquire stalled housing sites or sites which have not been built out to timescales contractually agreed, ideally with the recovery being made at pre-planning gain prices. "
that'd make a few cough !! (and a dent in their accounts)
