When you know you've 1 cog left and if you fluff it up. You going back down to try again.

Or some twat pulls out spoiling your run up.

Never a good feeling
Wish I could find pics of my mates defender....few years back as a keen nipper he took his 90 and 12ft tipper loaded with Indian stone up a ruddy steep local lane ...defender ran out of of grip started sliding back he became a passenger at that point....😄😄😄 Ifor hit a bank and flipped onto its side ...he had to casually walk up the lane and ask his customer to come and ask him help unload and carry up the hill 😆😆😆 never lived it down.
Ifor was fine when empty just flipped it back up and still uses it to this day . The odd scratch as a tattoo.

I was dragged backwards down a hill by a 2.5 tonne mulcher on a 12 foot Ifor after running out of momentum in a Disco 1. It’s not a nice feeling!!!

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
I remember towing a 6' ldv convoy on a trailer with another ldv convoy, I ran out of puf in 1st on a hill and had to reverse back down to make another attempt.
did you leave the one on the trailer at the bottom, go back, drive it up and reload it ? :giggle:

Had to collect this and drop it off at a farm on top of the biggest hill in the county View attachment 51688for a charity last week - it’s heading to Ukraine so probably hasn’t got the longest life left ahead of it! I was glad the MAN is auto!
bet that was exciting -- assuming you could get anywhere near 40mph with it

My van would probably drag it at 80 if I had the bollocks for it!
(I don’t think I saw 50 anywhere to be honest, it towed fine but I didn’t fancy my chances if the tail started wagging the dog…)

Looking for a site in Bargoed, early 80,s .. stopped to ask a milkman for directions - it's 5.45 and I'm in a TMS300 Grove .. like this, but with two chain boxes with about 2.5t of chains in and 10 half sleepers on the deck -- circa 33t...

"take the second left and just keep going - it pops out opposite the site - I'm up and down it all the time " rounded a couple of corners and I am confronted by the mother of all hills ... :oops:o_O
13 cog Fuller Road ranger - lovely box but 3 ranges and 'heavy' .. I've run out of anything usable in high, as wasn't going overly quick to start with and I am rapidly running out of the five in low ...
going from low to crawler was an art - which I managed to pull off to perfection that morning ..
I was now in 3rd crawler and the 240 Cummins was groaning ... 3 to 2 was a long travel, but doubling down makes all the difference to making it and I still could see no end in sight to this fkn hill ...
eventually had to double it down into bottom crawler, pedal to the metal and prey ... (even with the weight of the machine 1st crawler was an awesomely powerful gear - once pulled a fully laden artic out of a stream with 1st crawler, like it wasn't there), but that's another story :giggle:
this 'road' came out onto a main-ish drag and there was no way I was gonna make a pull away ... anything coming was gonna see 5-6ft of jib and hook block appear, slowly, fore me an' the cab started to fill the road, followed by two axles wearing 13.00-20 wheels... and I was gonna want ALL the available road:oops::rolleyes:
crested that junction with about 400 revs to spare and most of the seat foam up my bum, to a thankfully empty road .. and damn me there was the site  ...... never, ever, EVER ask a milkman for bloody directions

replaced the injection pump on my disco 1 - didn’t get the timing right and for a few weeks it was gutless and smoking . Took a 2.5ton digger on my Ifor for a drive up my local very steep valley. I was all the way down to bottom box and in first and loosing power when I reached top. Made me sweat. Not as cool as V8s story though. My old non turbo MK4 transit used to run out of grunt regularly. Had to back down a hill for a run up a few times when towing with that one. Gutless banana engine that was, and blew it up at 90K.

I thought the banana engine's were supposed to be good but my dad's one failed with not many miles.

I think the second run with a bit less mechanical sympathy did it, luckily it was a short hill.

only experience I have of banana manifolded engines were the 4ltr petrol's in the P38s ... and they were bullet proof - 4.6 blocks only bored to 4ltr and didn't suffer the porosity problems the 4.6,s did with not a lot less donkeys

Well I got it tipping today, hooked it up to the E10 aux circuit. Negative draw bar weight when tipped, so I think the swivel will be safest ignored . Tafe has a quicke loader so will run 2 extra hoses under the seat and quick couple them onto the loader aux circuit. Nice and easy (ish). Just need to run a hose to get the lengths measured then the man next door should be able to sort me out with a pair of hoses.
