This...often thought they could get better bang for buck...wtf not have a national standard vehicle like yanks do...guess doesn't suit brown envelope gang as much.

I don`t know why they don`t have cheap cars, and lots of them.
You only have to see improvements in driving when there is a police car around.
Criminals would think twice, as there is always a police car about, phones while driving, jumping lights, car/cycles sharing the road better all would be an improvement

Why bother cameras are cheaper.

And tbf they can't exactly be running Nissan micras on high speed pursuit work. And they need an estate to carry the paperwork they need

Can't remember the last actual high speed chase I saw..... To be blunt I don't think they do anywhere near the amount we would be lead to believe.

I'd say the majority of there fleet could comfortably be replaced with nissan sunnys.

Also if you study the "congratulate us on Twitter posts" half the job had been done for them...trackers, public tipping them off etc ..how much is down to good old fashioned let's figure it out and catch the twats stuff. Amount of tales I hear from folk trying to get police to investigate stuff is depressing ...generally it's "do you want a crime no for insurance"... sad state of affairs for what is a noble profession imo.

Also a lot of unmarked in convoy doing a ton round the m25. But then I am within spitting distance of London Heathrow and Gatwick.

You're right, they don't...collateral damage reduction, the faster they chase the more likely the crims are to spin off and kill a bystander, most of them get told to stand down by superiors when pursuing now, let the insurance replace the stolen vehicle. Which I understand to a degree, wouldn't want someone's family member being killed for the sake of an Audi but the criminals know this now and take advantage of it. A lot of people don't know this but traffic cops operate on key performance indicators, the more tickets they dole out the better their employment review, normal plods don't operate on KPI, thats why traffic are sneaky and unforgiving mostly.

not many vehicles'd stick the pace though ... on the road a hell of a lot of the day - hot desk-ed - type thing. need to be able to sustain traffic speeds constantly and well above spasmodically / frequently ... most traffic work these days is dealing with RTA aftermath ... of which there is a lot and requires a fast response to attend.
As for 'the quota' as they called it ... a lot were not happy with it and didn't play the game ... no idea about today's generation, but guessing they're not so old skool and'll notch 'em up to be PC/get less ear ache.

All the time in London...going up Finchley Road one morning bout six am,two unmarked x5's going to fast to take road furniture on their side of road in both lanes on my side of the road!

I’ve heard a story regarding a local-ish fire service, that bmw actually came up with the best deal to supply fire officers cars. However someone thought they would too “flash” so either Ford or Toyota was chosen.
