Anyone using electric diggers?

im actually looking forward to getting one is 20 years time. Electric motor instead of diesel engine is a no brainer. The problem they have to sort is how to charge the thing overnight on a site with no power and make it last a full 9 hour day getting beasted.

right ... in light of the recent declaration that all vehicles're gonna be electric by 2030 ....

where is all the power coming from to charge all these? ....
the current national grid's capacity can't cope with an ad break in a popular TV prog. when everyone turns the kettle on :oops:.... they have to switch in reserve systems, often having to crank up disused generating facilities to cope.:(
HTF are we going to service the demand when everyone gets home from work and plugs in, looking for massive Kw/Mw/Gw supplies, to charge their depleted vehicle batteries ??? ....
to say now't of the thousands of pieces of plant, getting plugged in at the end of each shift.:unsure:

and what about all the emissions all the generation of this power is going to cause even if there's a system in place to create all this massive increase in energy requirements? ......
or are we gonna go nuclear in a big way:oops: ...
and leave all the sh1t for future generations to cope with???:cry::cry:

Add to that if you have a 3 car household all needing to charge up as well as put kettle on and watch tv will single phase supply even cope. I've not seen any sign of 3 phase being installed into all domestic properties yet.

now that'd be a bonus (y)(y):giggle: might even make buying an electric roller skate worth while :cool: ... where do i apply for a free 3 ph installation please :LOL:

The sales man told me the dumper will do 4 hours of continuous use. That's a bit rubbish when it costs twice the price.

Is electro hydraulic the right way forward on mini excavators? Can you see them changing from hydraulic cylinders to linear actuators 🤔 there are some nice actuators out there with precision repeatability, could possibly make Trimble or Idig systems easy to adapt.

Plus all the lost revenue in fuel , at some point it will be a pay per mile system for electric vehicles

the capacity can be evened out a lot as the majority will change over night when demand is very low. For those who commute to work and then their car sits all day they will become part of the grid supplying peak demand. You will be able to set a min amount you want to keep and above that you can sell back to grid. You charge overnight when its cheap again.

Not sure there is enough time to get the supply chain setup for it though, i would think 15 years to be more realistic. Can't see there being anywhere near enough charging points outside the home buy then.

but would they have the power initially and how long'd they last ... consider the number of actions/actuations/operations just on a simple trench or a grade job .... comparing an actuator to a much lower friction creating ram, with some serious pressure operating it .... just can't see it being a viable option TBH

A 20t digger will just have a big Bank of lead acid batterys and ditch the counterweight much like a electric forklift. I can see how feeding back to the grid will work but there needs to be a lot more infastructure involved to make it work

what about all the terraced houses that only have a foot path in front of the house with cables running across them to charge there cars, not every body has a drive to park on :unsure: I'm fortunate only me and the bride so only car and a van on a private drive/yard but my brother has,,,,,,,,,,,his car, wife's car, daughter's car, sons car and sons work van and can only get one on the drive at a time:cry: he may fine it a bit tricky:whistle:

Better make sure the extension lead is fully unwound if you're gonna be charging 5 cars off it 🤣
