Appreciate the comments. I was confused as to what was wrapped. As I said above, I have previously wrapped the shingle and pipe but don’t recall ever wrapping just the pipe.
The reason I posted the pics was just to show everyone what seems to me to be a novel solution to getting a wet garden drained. It would have been a ball ache getting clean stone into the majority of the garden. I have used the area where the clean stone was tipped to put another land drain in where the access allows. But seeing how slow the progress is I will certainly be rethinking future jobs if the need arises!!
I think the problem might be if people think ..... "well gravel is harder work so lets just price to put that s**t everywhere"

Don't complain - suggest what's better
Given the obvious time saving and ease of installing I think there will be a lot of it used. I would certainly consider it if I were doing land drains.
I can see the issue if it were ever to be disturbed though. Are there other options apart from polystyrene?

Thats why they shouldnt be allowed to make it
That horrible plastic net is no better than the polystyrene imho

Im no tree hugger but I said something because Im sure people quite innocently never even stop to consider environmental impact.
Yes there is an enviromental impact to quarrying but its got to be better than that hateful shite burried everywhere for future generations to have to deal with.

Trouble with recycled is, around here no one has a wash plant, some of the screened, you might as well put the soil back, granted it better in the summer/dry weather.
I did a horse arena the other year, customer supplied the materials, 40mm crushed glass, it wasn't too bad, I was thinking it would crumble and shatter, but it seemed OK. Never come across it that big, only smaller sizes to be used in tarmac and sand type grades. Unfortunately they didn't have enough to do the whole job, so only did the drains in it, the rest was do in normal recycled (a bit under sized imo).
The glass looked like it had come from thick panes, maybe 30mm thick, you would of thought it would of got recycled back into glass?

You have got consider though with the likes of terram, without it you would have to bury twice as much stone to get the stability in some places So it's 6 of one half a dozen of the other
Also not thinking about environmental impact but slot of the issues listed above seem regarding finding it in the future I don't find the problems nearly as bad with white terram as apposed to that awful woven black stuff

I use terram where needed if we cant use rubble etc and yes totally agreeit has to be weighed up against a lot more stone but I have much more of an issue with that over complicated horrible plastic stuff that they are peddling for a one hit drain soloution.

Agree 100% on the stability issue!

Fully agree IMHO.

I hate terram for the same reason.... Overused contaminating shite.
I'm quite keen on using hessian as a short term filter membrane, lasts long enough to stop the disturbed ground bunging up the drainage but is gone by the time the soil structure is back 🙂

Saves time and money but what about the environmental impact ....... not being argumentative I just wondered what your thoughts were ?
Image the mess when someone remodels the garden or builds or whatever..... thats going to go everywhere when its dug through (n) they shouldnt be allowed to make it imho.
Is it me ? whats other peoples thoughts ?
all pipes are plastic now cant see the problem. Going back to Clay is much worse for the environment!

out of curiosity where is the roof being drained too ?
Main Sewer. I can guess where you are going with this but not a direction I would take on this project!!
I have a degree of confidence that we will crack this “au natural”

FFS surely you can see that plastic pipe that comes out of the ground in big pieces that can be dealt with bears no resemblance to that crap.
Nobody mentioned going back to clay pipes as a solution 🤷‍♂️

I am still at a bit of a loss to see why this land drain has caused such a stir!!
There must be more damage being done with concrete than just my 30m of poly beads!! I use a lot of recycled agg in roads and drives but the problem here was access. It serves a purpose. Is the issue just future contamination or use of plastic in general??
