What man as done, man can do, what never has, maybe
Finally persuaded the client that it needs land drains!!
All will be revealed, hopefully, later when we are done!! It dries out quickly but any rain and it turns into soup. I think we have an underground water source that has previously drained but a new road was put around 30/40 years ago that cut off all the old land drains dead!!
What by tracking around like a lunatic churning it up😳😂😂😂
looks like it worked though😂

In my defence that was just tracking in to start the land drain about 20m away. It rained as we worked our way towards “the wet patch” and it was quite clear there was no charging around like a lunatic required!!

I would love to share the photo of when I tracked it out today.......but alas my optimism deluded me!!

I have managed to lift the machine up, put some timbers under it and come home for my timber rescue kit for tomorrow!!

I was offered something similar lately but had my concerns about all those plastic pieces contaminating the ground
it might be easy but would rather put gravel.
Whats your thoughts ?

The client was persuaded to but 10 x 3m lengths for the wet part of the site that I had no chance of getting the clean stone to unless it was in buckets. It is so easy to use, love it.
We are still using clean stone and land drain coil on the over half of the site, but to be honest, the time saving is immense!!

Whenever I do land drains for sports pitch's, the contractor never wants terram around it as they say it blocks up and stops the drain working correctly. They would rather the silt get into the land drain where you can jet it out every few years.

How does it compare on price to clean aggregate (virgin material not recycled)?
Are they 3 metre lengths?
Thanks

we paid £48.50 per 3m length. I will be finding out if I can get a better direct price in future as this was needs must!! Time saving justify the additional cost.

To be fair. We are worried about next week and turfing it rather than next year!!

I dont use wrapped either - when I worked for a land drainage company in the U.K we only time we used wrapped was in Iron Ochre.
We are asked to line the trench with it and fold it back over the top of the washed stone quite often, which we do.

Saves time and money but what about the environmental impact ....... not being argumentative I just wondered what your thoughts were ?
Image the mess when someone remodels the garden or builds or whatever..... thats going to go everywhere when its dug through (n) they shouldnt be allowed to make it imho.
Is it me ? whats other peoples thoughts ?

It is wrapped and buried!! Haven’t considered there is an impact chance of contamination!!

Lining the trench must have the same effect of wrapping surely?

I think @Gunners was inferring but not wrapping at all the silt will filter into the pipe rather than block up around the wrapping.

I assume by lining the whole trench the theory is there is a much larger surface area of terram as opposed to wrapped round a 100mm pipe and if its surface water then perhaps the terram near the top of the trench could be cut back if silted up and replaced leaving clean gravel underneath ?

Got it. I have never wrapped a pipe before but have lined the trench when asked!!

I do whatever is asked too. But thought I would share what the so called "experts" say. At the end of the day, the client is paying. What they want is what they get.

Appreciate the comments. I was confused as to what was wrapped. As I said above, I have previously wrapped the shingle and pipe but don’t recall ever wrapping just the pipe.
The reason I posted the pics was just to show everyone what seems to me to be a novel solution to getting a wet garden drained. It would have been a ball ache getting clean stone into the majority of the garden. I have used the area where the clean stone was tipped to put another land drain in where the access allows. But seeing how slow the progress is I will certainly be rethinking future jobs if the need arises!!
