9 t wide tracks

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
As long is its under 2.9m or less than 305mm overhang, it will be ok without a notification.
used to be 10ft/3050mm without notification/second man  has it changed?

How? The ram is hidden between the track frame and the blade. That's like saying your tracks look terribly vulnerable?

I've decided to keep it for now! It's surprisingly useful- even just when stabilising the machine on unven ground.
Well fair enough if you find it useful. But to me it's just more hoses to get hooked up on brash and a chrome ram at the working end of a machine to watch out for. I don't like expanding tracks for the same reason.

Personally I’d bin the angle-ability of the blade, fit the widest tracks that will fit without further modification, and get a tilty on it. Cutting track pads down seems like an unnecessary compromise somehow.
Or lock the blade and remove the angle-rams for when you have the wide steels fitted, but keep the bits with your rubber tracks for any job where the blade angle is important (which I doubt very much would ever be on soft ground).

Or wonder if a fairly easy solution could take off the hydraulic ram when the steels are on and have a separate set of brackets that could be fixed with a short 3pl top link to keep the blade fixed?

600mm will be a big advantage over rubber as you know, not just that thrilled with offset pads though on a 8t volvo with 900mm offset pads just now and im not just that fussed on it find yourself being careful with them etc... id be keen to make the blade fixed and get a standard pad on? 800mm pads make a 8t very nice and floaty id argue they make a massive difference to stability too! Worst with wide pads is you slide about more on short wet grass etc, so the blade is handy to anchor you!!

How far offset are those pads?

If ditching the angle blade, would you go 600 or 800?

How do wider tracks affect turning? She doesn’t like turning much as it is, not sure if it’s the weak tracking or whether it’s the narrow tracks digging in too much

I don't see how I can engineer the blade and rams any better than JCB have from the factory sadly. I appreciate it's a compromise.

Obviously I'm not standing there looking at it so not fully informed.
As I understand it the blade pivots, I'd be looking at cranking the arms inwards and making it more of a triangular frame and attaching the rams in-line with where the arms currently attach. You're quite lucky this wasn't posted before the weekend as I was down your way teaching Scots pines the error of their ways and there was a stick or two of fabricators chalk in the corsavan 😁

Exactly what I was thinking- a short strut as per red line anchored back to the blade frame on both side? Then easy to remove and reinstate the hydraulic ram if you want to keep options open?

Yes 3.5m wide for second man
Its still 3050mm out the back or front for notification 2nd man,
and a 2nd man out front between 2000mm and 3050mm
All plus markers and lights.

Yes, I was thinking a short top link bracket or similar there.

Hmm good question ive not checked, its fairly extreme though. i shall run a tape over it tomorrow.

depends how soft a round your in and what your expected work is? Ive just bought a machine on 600s but id be happier had it been on 800 or 900s... but as with anything its diminishing returns VS extra strain on components? Pity needs to be taken on the top roller and them be doubled up if you get too carried away

I find they turn fine but often lift to help it round or if thats not a option its all big slow lazy turns to avoid surface damage if that makes sense?

Went from 450mm road liner to 700mm steel on my Case, defo wouldn’t go back and defo wouldn’t go for a rubber track or back to 450.

She’s easier turned, just slides nicely, but not too much where she slides about when digging. As with any 8/9t machine that has a kingpost mounted boom she is front heavy, but the wide pads make so much difference it is unreal, doesn’t nose dive into wet spots any more

A good set of steels make a previously rubbered one look twice the machine.! I hated the 450mm rubbers on my case- were like rubber bands- always wanting to come off if tracking sideways across a slope
