Was it a genuine Komatsu pin? Think I have one or two brand new genuine ones laying in the yard away on holiday at the moment though so can’t have a look till next Friday.

Being replaced FOC by supplier which is good .... Out of curiosity the failed item will be getting tested when I get time.

I'd suspect it missed a stage of the heat treatment leaving it very hard and brittle.
(a qualified opinion would be very interesting)

yeah the internal structure looks very grainy over heated or cooled too quickly

normally en24 we buy for bucket pins and pins for rams. Got a sent of 120mm pins for a 50 tonner digging bucket just recently.

I think what Aiden is saying is it you take en24 and harden it up it will be really hard but you lose the tensile strength a bit And become brittle. If you buy in en24t bar and cut to length of pins then it be ideal but just not for further hardening.

I know what he was saying Mike, I was just say en24 works for us for use in buckets and attachments.
