Idea was kicked about by Highways England for the M1 job I've been on.

I told my Senior Works Manager, they can demand what they like but I'd guarantee my machine would be going on a lowloader rather than agree to having some 3rd party have access to a kill switch.
Many times I'm shedding weight cross carriage loading trucks on other carriageway by opening bucket as I clear side of truck. Can you imagine some third party thinking Ooooo, its going over, and hit kill switch FFs! then it would be going over and nothing I could do about it.

They have been around for a bit now, think it was crossrail that introduced them.
I had a mate that works for alot of the big co,s around London and had been asked for them. we looked into it and built a working trail, but then it died a death.... don't think it was as wide spread as people thought, most likely for the reasons you just said.

Its another half witted idea taken from another industry.

My understanding, kill switch mounted on rail plant allows isolation once parked to ensure no movement until train has passed. Seems to me some half wit has seen the red button, totally misunderstood what its for and said, weeeee we can have those on our diggers and we can make them remote

i dont suppose there is any reason why parking type sensors could not be fitted to give 360 coverage, if one is triggered the relevant camera is displayed for instant check. Doesn't matter what you do on site there is always an idiot (architects, building inspectors and window fitters have shortest site life expectency in my experience)who will ignore every rule going get himself injured or killed and make the person operating the machine fully correctly feel like crap the rest of their life.

Good example there of how to deal with f****ng idiots..... fence them in/out (opinions at your discretion.

It does have to be pondered why a ZTS machine is fitted with such a item. It can't physically swipe someone with the slew unless they are within a foot

still I like the red line markers.... better than any camera system.

I`ve seen similar on forklift trucks, but they emit a blue light shining on to the ground behind them.

Big thing on Twitter this week as MOB have a duck on M27 for BAM Nuttal working nightshift and the red lines show up a treat on the ground as it slews around.
Fantastic idea but are we still not missing he point. WHY would anybody want to go near the machine when its working?

Pity its still got a green seatbelt warning light flashing away despite being sat on a live carriageway but hey ho, its ticked the bullshit box so someone in an office will be happy
