i am goiîng to take off the torque converter and flywheel next week. baling straw this weekend.

good call on the spigot bearing Mick .. would certainly explain bitsabrass/phosphor bronze in the bell housing (y)

It’s what I do!
Although on that set up it’s just there for centralising, but they do get chewed up as bits get worn.

I think i found the source of the bronze bits. The bush in the startermotor

unless I'm mistaken, there should be a spigot bush in here too ..... always has been on every TC I've pulled out

None of the current Cat machines with a CaterPerkins have a spigot Bearing. The actual T/C carries the front of the shaft and the T/C is centralised on the flywheel by a flange. IIRC the JCB box is a very similar set up, probably took design cues from Turner.

anybody know the difference between the two pistons in the reverser . The original darker one has a small hole in the outer diameter. The new lighter one has a bigger hole with a ball in it.

I think the darker ones are nylon if I'm not mistaken! They did a run of nylon and I think it didn't work out well for them
looks more like cast iron to me Aiden ??

yes , the original one is cast, and the new one also . I was just wondering why the new one had a bigger hole with a little ball inside it
