3 ton straight tip with a lister 3 cylinder. Best all round for travelling, as bomb proof yet easy to fix as you'll get and if you get it stuck not too heavy to rescue with digger.
This.....

Plus if it dies, you've lost £1500 or under instead of £8000....... Infact you've lost less than that as someone will buy it dead for a grand.

Things never die here, it's not allowed 😅
Thanks all for the tips (y)
Dumpers die pal, rule 1. The old ones are very simple to fix but occasionally they properly die.

There are two for sale on faceache for 5k the pair. Benford and a Sanderson in Cornwall...... Cheap enough..

It’s what I do!
Need to check centre pivot, definitely the lower part for wear, parts for dumpers are plentiful.

Mine is pretty handy, don't use it much but it's good to keep around. Paintwork keeps well on them. I gave £1700 and changed all the oils plus the brake master cylinder. Then I treated it to new boots and a new seat. So owes me around £3.5k I reckon

That era will have either a Lister or petter..... If it's got the petter walk away.
Went and had a look today, they're hemmed in tight by a load of other items so couldn't be driven, but they said they both drove in. The old one started and ran easy enough and both skips tipped and swivelled. Has plenty of oil in, no major leaks. Old one had a few damp patches around the rams which were a bit marked and rusty in areas, but nothing dripping. Both electric start. Older ones tyres were a bit old and cracked, steering ram eye links had some slop in them.
Odd thing is though the older ones engine said Lister Petter on it?
Well I said the newer one started easy enough when it was a bit weird really. When the ign is on it makes a piecing noise, but I think it's supposed to do that, it turned over well enough, but wouldn't start though and eventually the battery died. They went to get a booster pack and it then fired up straight away! The fella in the yard said it had done that before.

Mounted on the rear wing there is a hydraulic unit with two levers, what do they do? The skip control is round the other side.

Passed by a small local plant hire (big stuff) yard on the way back, he said he knows where I live and would be happy to pick up and deliver for me. Probably something like a 12 mile trip for him so will keep costs down.

Spool block is likely a modification by someone for log splitter etc.

Lister petter will mean it's got the later engine in. Which is good.

Anything under £1500 is worth buying

The tipping valves are not cheap, even if it does nothing keep hold of it, the condition is not bad for its age!

The newer machine had rusty holes in the deck around the seat, the older one had plenty of surface rust, but no perforations.
A close up of the valve here:

So like JD450A says, probably to power something else?
It was solid, but started to loosen when I hit it with my hand a few times, some penetration oil would probably see it working.

The Thwaites swivel went for well over £5k with VAT and fees so I was out of the running. Stuck £1200 on the Benford and wasn't outbid, so think I've won it 🥳
Will wait for confirmation, the invoice and sort out transport.
Then see what delights are brought this way. You can't beat buying new toys can you? 😅
Will start looking for a workshop manual then so I can give it a good fettle.
