Buying and renovating a Benford TT3000 dumper

As per my other '803 leaking diesel' thread we have recently taken on a small holding and the restoration of an old farmhouse on the Pennines, i'm doing most of the work myself to keep costs down and I quite enjoy it. My background is building trade and motor trade (engine builder). The old 803 is now chugging around happy as Larry, sipping at the cherry and engine oil consumption has gone right down too. Oddly enough the oil was clear on the dipstick even after a few hrs work, this is completely different to any other diesel engine i've done an oil change on where it soon goes black. Maybe when you drain these old 3 pot Perkins down nearly every drop of old oil comes out?
I've been working with old Victorian stone built field drains recently, will write about that in another thread if anyone is interested?

Anyhow, to my point, I now need a dumper to go with it. I'm thinking of something from 2 - 3 tons with a rough max price of £5k inc VAT.
Or what about this? Apparently starts and runs, says '3000kg' on the plate, is a D plate made by Benford. Apart from that no details. As I don't even know how to start and drive one I'm a bit buggered, even to test it myself.

Looks like it's been stood a while, could be a half decent machine for my occasional use or a total nightmare....
Viewing is from today until Weds lunchtime.

Thanks, any particular points I should be looking at
Not really.

3t dumpers are about 20k new now. Slightly later ones than that hold their money at 4-7k all day long.

That era will have either a Lister or petter..... If it's got the petter walk away.

Gearbox will be a newage 85, parts are cheap (rebuild about £120 for the kit)

Don't be afraid to walk away, but it will easily sell on for £1500.

Thanks all, will go have a poke around tomorrow and report back. Lack of roll hoop is putting me off a bit.

There is this 3.5T one too, at the other end of the price range and maybe beyond. Swivel skip I think and It's got VAT, road registered/road legal so i'll be paying for more than I need - it won't ever see a road in my hands.

Over the last couple of years all the second hand machinery I have bought has increased in value. If its at the very low end of the market I'd say its more likely you'll need to spend money repairing faults that weren't immediately noticeable. Therefore I'd say get something decent that you don't need to do anything too, and when you don't need it anymore, hopefully it's worth more and easier to sell as it isn't a load of crap!

Good advice.

If the machine is going to be staying on your small holding it might be worth looking at something a bit bigger as bigger machines don’t always command more money because they are a pain in the ass to shift around.
and you can get a good 7+t in a Thwaites six tonner if you try
As handy as swivels can be just be aware that if you are hand loading or unloading them they are too high
aye that is true ... mine is above my head, unless it's tipped ..... but don't let the missus try to bury you with it :ROFLMAO:
