was me ... that wasn't a new car holding bay ...... that was part of $7 billions-worth that VW had to buy back 'cos of their emissions fiddles -- in one of 35 sites in the states ... and that IS JUST the states !!!!!

I'll be honest imho vw were just unfortunate to be the one's who were rumbled but my opinion has always been nobody picked a vw for the low emissions and to save the planet it was for the better performance and fuel economy they had "found" a way to achieve under the constraints of emissions regs. Funny people didn't like the slightly higher fuel use if they let vw update the software shows just how little they cared about the planet.And why should they...make up bull crap emission green eco regulations...then wonder when folk get creative...always thought fair play to VW ....everyone else was at it as well but they the biggest ....guess we'll never see the actual grubby deals that the others did...

if you read a lot of the comments from people who had this done, it seemed to make a lot of the cars undriveable / unreliable / a nightmare, with a lot wishing they'd never had it done/ever bought into the 'updates' .

VW USA were compelled to buy them back, not supply new for old ... you then had to go and buy a replacement and if you wanted a volks particularly, which presumably most did, WTF do you replace with?
it's obvious from the whole fiasco, that the emmissions levels set were unachievable, with current tech. AND produce a saleable, driveable vehicle that you could actualy sell

Nah emissions were clearly achievable but like construction and others before they were all trying to avoid adblue. Your equivalent vw models now (at least the vans) have adblue and 10hp more. Like i say vw may have been the worst but everyone was cheating.

it'd finish all who were caught - and they all were at it ..... the states must've been a massive burden to VW's finances ... They weren't unachievable at the time though just it would have put you on the back foot selling your cars if you weren't pushing boundaries like everyone else. They made an example of vw and made it sound a lot worse than it was imho. Was it really a lot worse than rolling road economy figures or economy runs done on test tracks with grilles and panel gaps taped up and mirrors etc removed?no question ... as said the targets were unachievable with the available tech ..... or none of them would have resorted to the risk of being caught

wasn't about economy though Gaz ..... they were cheating emmissions read outs ... had built in sensing for when it was connected up for rolling road/emmisions measurements to cut back fueling to bare usable limits .... they knew their vehicles were undriveable, in true operating conditions, configured to pass emmisisions requirements, under test. End of ..... 's why the yanks came down on 'em so hard ... blatant deception.

Yeah yeah yeah Ford in european market were no much better, 6 speed transit customs that can barely pull sixth gear on the flat at legal speeds but they wouldn't want to shaft one of their own. Been going on for too long by too many someone had to cop it, time to move on imho.

agreed ....... the buying public had the wool pulled royally over their eyes and got properly shafted ...... if they (any of 'em) hadn't fiddled with 'em they'd never have sold 'em .... the greens drove it and were the losers really ... didn't get what they were after, just got lied to, like the rest of the world and those driving the vehicles got a car that drove fine, but at 'an environmental cost' that they'd supposedly paid a premium to avoid !!
the whole 'green agenda' is utter bollox, when you look at the percentage CO contributes to the greenhouse effect .. as has been discussed elsewhere .... a bloody huge excuse to tax us into oblivion
someone said earlier in the week they wished they could buy a car for less than £5k ...... if we weren't paying tax on tax on tax on tax, ad inifinitum, to cover theirs they don't pay (green driven shite) we probably could
