Ive 4 of the 9ah 54v flexvolt batteries they are only 3ah in 54v and 9ah in 18v but great for tripod light or smaller grinder or 18v breaker but in my 54v breaker or grinder or table saw or 300mm chop saw they’re only 3ah but use time isn’t noticeably short. got 8 of the 6ah 54v and 12 of the 5ah 18v so can keep 3 guys going all day with desalt kit

Haha I think Ive got about 36 dewalt tools listed on mydewalt profile thing and working remote sites etc better than annoying generator going all day

What you need is a mini loader to carry all ur batteries around site

looking at the price of those batteries ....... you need to be charging and keeping yours in a safe

I bet if you had all them in the van without the red slider plates on the reduce the WH you would technically be on wrong side of DGSA regs..

Local merchant had a deal on £100 each for the 9ah ones so snapped them up, on one of barn jobs had two tripod lights and they’d run them all day off the 9ah. Got 10 chargers on a board in the garage

I got myself a McCulloch cordless chainsaw it has an 18 in bar and I can fault it so far, It has been superb, The batterry seems to last for ages.

Other makes are not like that.

My Ego bats are 5ah at 56v ie 280 wh which is how we really should be quoting batteries.
Total stored energy.

That & delivery amps.

Thats where the new 500s bats from stihl do better as they can power bigger motors as they can be drained at a faster / higher rate.

You would not fit a 56v 5ah Ego battery to a hand held drill type device.

But that's the thing with the dewalt batteries. Rather than make a dedicated big battery for more fixed items like chopsaws or ones like chainsaws which are a bulky item to begin with they are trying to keep within the drill battery format (they are all doing this not just dewalt). Stihl aren't bothered about the battery fitting ur impact driver or the charger for it as they don't make them.

Rather than make a dedicated big battery for more fixed items like chopsaws or ones like chainsaws which are a bulky item to begin with they are trying to keep within the drill battery format (they are all doing this not just dewalt). Stihl aren't bothered about the battery fitting ur impact driver or the charger for it as they don't make them.

I run a mix of corded and cordless stuff, but dewalt cordless brushless stuff is so good that I’ll never buy corded tools again! So many tools I go too and think wtf did I buy that with a cord - multi tool for instance! It gets 30 seconds use most of the time but takes longer to run a lead out to it etc!

Biggest thing with it is over the last 15 years or so we've seen big jumps in not just battery tech but also motors for the cordless stuff. There has been zero invested into motors for mains powered gear and thats why there is so little between them. But for high load more fixed gear plugged in still has the edge (and some of the motor tech was put into it it could have more than an edge).

There has been zero invested into motors for mains powered gear and thats why there is so little between them. However good mains is it's still got to be plugged into something...leaving a lead trip over and get yanked out...and can't be used in a hurry in a field or on site where 110V stuff is shite....mains is and always will be a pitfa unless you in a workshop...but even then it's easier to grab a cordless grinder etc...
Hence cordless tools have virtually replaced mains in sales figures these days.
It's only getting better...the stuff on the horizon is pretty incredible it all hinges around battery life and weight etc.
Tech is already here now to run a 3KVA battery "Genny" for a full day it's the £ that folk dont like atm but that will only go one way I guess.

Imo this is an interesting topic....as unlike cars folk are buying cordless tools on their merit and benefit not because they are forced due to government regulation or supposed environmental grounds hence why I hate the fk out of electric cars and yet love cordless tools..

I think it also highlights the bemusement as to why they are all pissing around with super fast chargers and charging points and not interchangeable battery packs.
I know it would need a lot of infrastructure but surely it has to be the quickest solution. Just pay a subscription and go into most likely a petrol station that has a bank of batteries and swap them out to be charged slowly and not overload the mains

I know what you're saying and it's 50/50 with how folk work. But a chop saw set up on site where leccy is available may as well be plugged in instead of having its spare battery plugged in on charge (which probably uses more leccy)
