Imo this is an interesting topic....as unlike cars folk are buying cordless tools on their merit and benefit not because they are forced due to government regulation or supposed environmental grounds hence why I hate the fk out of electric cars 😂 and yet love cordless tools..
Tuesday night musings .
My cars are already cordless, I don’t want to have to plug it in for 12hours every night 🤣

I know what you're saying and it's 50/50 with how folk work. But a chop saw set up on site where leccy is available may as well be plugged in instead of having its spare battery plugged in on charge (which probably uses more leccy)
My big 54v chop saw takes two 54v batteries or has a lead that plugs into battery slots and connects to 110v best of both worlds in 1 saw

I run a mix of corded and cordless stuff, but dewalt cordless brushless stuff is so good that I’ll never buy corded tools again! So many tools I go too and think wtf did I buy that with a cord - multi tool for instance! It gets 30 seconds use most of the time but takes longer to run a lead out to it etc!

corded tools even 110 are banned on a lot of sites now due to H&S, insurance are treating them virtually the same as hot works.

Exactly plus ..a lot are crap either because of motor difference due to 110V or the supply being crap or intermittent...

You can weld direct from the battery terminals ;)

I can weld from my off grid battery system. But at about 1.5t its not exactly portable :)

I think it also highlights the bemusement as to why they are all pissing around with super fast chargers and charging points and not interchangeable battery packs.
I know it would need a lot of infrastructure but surely it has to be the quickest solution. Just pay a subscription and go into most likely a petrol station that has a bank of batteries and swap them out to be charged slowly and not overload the mains
You would need lots more battery packs than cars to the tune of about a factor of 4 or 5.

Plus lots need active wet cooling.

that saw is more popwerfull than the mains version as it can pull more than 32A from the batteries.

32A from a 56V 54V battery gives you 1792W 1728W to play with.
If the saw runs two batteries in series, that'd be 32A at 112V 108V giving 3584W 3456W
16A 13A from 240V outlet provides 3840W 3120W

How much power can you pull from a 110V transformer?
(we don't use 110V downunder)

13a is max from normal 230 outlet..

Herein lies the problem with 110v...
Ideally it's 16a or sometimes 32a on site ..in reality you may be 10 floors up and it's big voltage drop so it's crap supply etc.

We run a workshop for tools and the amount 110V we get back is surprising..ok yes arguably it's treated worse etc etc...but best thing we could do is bin off 110v imo.

Normally a 110V doesn't get the same level of input and R&D by the big manufacturers we find UK is always an afterthought or pain to them as rest of EU is 230v

13a is max from normal 230 outlet..
Ah yeah, UK - 13A. 16A is germany
A standard outlet in Oz is 10A, but 15A, 20A, 25A and 32A single phase outlets are available if you insist (20 and above are very uncommon as 3ph is just better).

My point was just that a Watt is a Watt regardless where it come from.

I'm not disputing the actual work output of some of the latest cordless saws etc. But I think some on here are thinking that battery outputs are way bigger than they are don't underestimate the motor advancements as well.
But I'm sorry if you think 2 batteries can beat mains supply wtf are dewalt not making leccy cars they'd have it sown up.

I think I can weld for a good while with this. Holds nearly 53kWh. We now have two of them for the house supply.

I'm not disputing a modern battery chopsaws performance. The simple fact is no mains powered power tool has seen any development for about 15 years now since manufacturers decided cordless was the way to go. In just trying to point out batteries aren't mini nuclear power plants that some on here seem to think they are. Like you say on a high load application run time is still an issue.
