New house Builders

Every time I end up working in a new build it's always the same. Shitty clay in the back garden, usually under 2" of topsoil and a foot of building waste. Drainage non existant. I'm always amazed how s**t they are, followed by amazed how much idiots pay for them.

Last job was a corker. Nice guy, was apparently an architect and lectured in BIM at the local uni. You'd think he'd have known better. Terrible drainage issues in his back garden, so he wanted me to put a pond in. That'll sort it... Reckoned the house builder would supply a grab truck to compensate for all the hassle he's had. I resolved to :censored: and take the money (and run!):ROFLMAO: Oh, and rather than dump the material on the yet-to-be-topcoated road outside, he elected to pile the clay on top of a Wicks tarp on his already sinking block paving driveway.

Here's some cracking pics from that £380k David Wilson jobby....

This way round (bloody camera) makes the runs look even worse!

Weep holes from next doors garden discharging straight into his!! All the hedge plants had rotted off already.

Quality workmanship here. The chippy was obviously time served... I resented having to get off and fold the rollbar, would have done him a favour if I'd just pulled it all down.

Groundwater levels and s**t soil.

Beautiful brickwork.

And my personal favourite:

Dickhead brickie went to the effort of cutting two bricks and still couldn't get it right.
Quod erat demonstrandum ....... or put another way ... I f***ing told you so :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I can not believe people actually spend their hard earned sheckles on these s**t holes :mad:

I have to admit, much to my horror, my daughter reserved and purchased a new build 2 years ago. They managed to make an error in pricing all the extras she asked for and after fitting them asked her for a shed load of extra cash. I little letter from Dad resolved the issue. I was dreading driving down to see the final house. But, not all builders are the same, I was very impressed with the final product and the internal finish was better than any in any of the houses that I have built and sold!🤔🤔🤔

Will have to check, but think it was Taylor Wimpy. The biggest problem is the inconsistency across there sites. I am sure my daughters experience is not the norm!!

Nice pics Doobin. when I was just out of tec the brickys used to get me to do dentil dog toothing arches and other decorative etc as nobody there liked spending the time on it. At a guess if you're in the habit of delegating out work you don't want to do yourself there's a fair chance you're going to move on to the next house with the last one looking like this.

Not my problem jack?

Think small builders usually better to buy from. Saying that you get rougharses amongst them too. Usually a house is worth a lot more to them than a big builder in percentage terms so usually more care and attention to detail

And know I remember a friend of my son had a Barrett New Build. Moved in in Xmas eve, fast forward 2 years and one day, went out for Xmas lunch, came home to house flooded, turned water off, called Barrat emergency number, you where out of warranty yesterday, get hold of your house insurance! They have been in quite a battle since. Barrat finally agreed to look at the damage and sent there contractor around to check if they where at fault. Bearing in mind the household insurance guy had the day before checked the joint that blew and said it was missing the stiffener in the pipe, the contractor looked and mysteriously said there was one in there. He didn’t know they had a CCTV camera videoing the mysterious way the stiffener appeared. Amazing what goodwill jesture Barratts came up with after being sent footage!!!

f****ng Tory props are sending prices of these shitboxes sky high. Help to buy? Help for the developer to sell more like. The very year the 50k HTB was introduced, Persimon's profits per unit went up by 48k. It's a f****ng joke. Every time they witter on about 'affordability', they just chuck yet another prop under the house of cards. Record low interest rates. 'Shared ownership'. Yeah, you pay if if goes down in value, you are responsible for all the maintenance, and you only get a share of any value increase. Forty year mortgages! Next it'll be borrowing from your pension to line the developers pockets and inter-generational mortgages!

We need a government with the balls to allow self build developments to the same extent they allow these five big developers to sit on a 'landbank' and then develop it with bullshit cookie cutter houses to the great detriment of the local area. We need a govenment with the balls to tax the hell out of landlords and second home owners. A govenment that builds social housing whilst turning the tap on immigration almost totally off. And a policy whereby if you've paid rent for five years straight without missing a beat, you can have a mortgage for the same per month. It's nonsensical. Oh, you can't have a mortgage- why can't you save a deposit? Because I'm paying more than the mortgage in rent each month, and every year the price is 10% more!

I would never have a new build, and I feel so sorry for those that are forced in to it by the government backing the developer cartel. My cottage might be tiny, but it's 300 years old and still standing. Try that with a newbuild with chipboard rafters and a slight water leak!

100% agree with all of that Doob ..... the overpriced crap bunny hutches they build and pass off for housing is beyond reason. When the majors are getting planning consents for sites already under water on flooded flood plains and it's nigh on impossible to get an infill passed or God forbid anything that an individual can build and be pleased to own on any site there is something seriously wrong with the entire system ... starting with local authority ****ing planning committees who know absolutely sh1t about what they lord it over .... populated by ***kers with nothing better to do, no idea and egos the size of the Atlantic, telling the populous at large what they can't do .. 'cos they don't like it
All planning should be taken out of the hands of LAs completely and placed in the hands of professionals :mad:
