Is the backhoe loader a thing of the past?

It's a tidy design for sure! But it doesn't seem to fold back out of the way in which case must as well just have a proper grab.
pretty sure they do them with independent legs to fold either side of the dipper too  ... Frank @Bucket on wheels ????

Yeah I think you would need to get extra use out of the tractor - shifting your 5.5t in a dump trailer and then using that to muck shift etc
but ag/forestry/hort. from April .. otherwise same regime as running a truck

I doubt anything will actually change tbh.
They might have an initial crackdown but the police are way to short staffed to actually make a difference.
In the village I grew up in alone there must be atleast 6 plant hire firms moving machines around with tractors. Firms vary in size from one machine up to 20 machines.
3 of them have lorry's running alongside be the tractors.
This is one village in a not very agricultural area.
I highly doubt any of this will change anytime soon.

Or buy a machine where the outer slides out for the extender, the cat 432 has this set up but they changed it back to the inner sliding out here in the UK but most other places kept the outer slider.

That’s because they were terrible!! Far too heavy when fully extended, you could feel everything bending! I had afew and couldn’t wait to be rid of them!

Looks tidy tbf - and on easy levers but if your good enough to be contemplating a backhoe then you dont need em :)
You don't need them on a micro either- but by God it makes for a more comfortable day.

Come on Grandad- tell us the story of how real men in your day used hand clutches on the winchlines rather than hydraulic spools! :ROFLMAO:

This was my thoughts too- regardless of control pattern surely it's got to be more comfy sat back in your seat with the controls ergonomically placed rather than crouching over levers all day!

Can't say I find an issue at all for mine or any others I've used and I've lifted some heavy s**t over the years.

8k hours now on it and it's only had wear shims taken up.

Storrsy summed up my thinking (£30K just to move the 5.5t midi independently of outsiders) it is the 2Cx vs mini digger, trailer & towing vehicle thing on a bigger scale. I do though think the mini would attract more 'Garden scale' jobs as a (re) start up from nothing much. Anyway this is a long way away as I am still working on getting the Manor powered towable up & running.

mine was a 6 mile baptism of fire in an old borrowed 3CII ..... longest 12 miles of my life, by the time i'd cleared the ground I wanted it for and got it back :oops: ..... and i'd had plenty of experience in Fairys at that point. Never 'complained' about a Fairy ever again :giggle:

There is a reason you choose sticks on backhoes..... But if you know you know.... If you don't then you've no chance of using one to its capabilities

Half servo was a good compromise. My uncle has one, servos on seat and separate handle for front bucket. The new Cat with servos on the seat you can walk with it, the dipper and the front bucket can be used at the same time.
Half servo and a switch added so you don't have to be facing backwards for the back end to work i seem to remember seeing on someones one day.
