do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
Can you imagine the paperwork that's going to be involved in that now
" There seems to be no damage to the ship ( MPI Adventurer) or injuries, even tho the Liebherr LTR1100 seems to be a near write off. "
Must've been 'tailing' the lift .....

not big enough to be the main lifter .... can just about see it folding up on the deck / over the side of the ship ... would've been 'quite a ride' in the cab

I honestly don't understand how things like this still happen on major sites
Its not exactly a little outfit winging it
looks to be a sling failure .. once you have the bite/weight, the slightest movement in the sling will **** it instantly with that sort of weight involved

the LTR 1100 was obviously maneuvering it from the deck, tailing it - can see it on the right of the pic - and the sling went west, taking the little Lieb with it
boom looks seriously s/hand here, folded back on its self

But they are hardly mucking around using the single lift sling that came with a delivery 6 months ago
Surely if there's any chance what so everr a sling might move then in built lifting eyes should be specified or a purpose built cradle made. These accidents aren't as rare as they should be. And they all seem to be silly mistakes rather than a paperwork failure but all anyone can come up with is more paperwork

totally agree ... a twist in the sling'd be enough to knacker its integrity at that weight and trying to sling summat in those circumstances must be bloody difficult .. odds on that that was a slinging issue, causing the failure

To me the lifting frame has ripped right out poorly bolted maybe?
I'd agree, whatever it's attached to, has completely broken free and is still hanging on the lifting gear afterwards ... can see the Lieb.'s jib fold over at 18sec.s ... was tailing it flat BTLs so changing the direction of loading on the lift gear

Out of interest what "reserve" would a jib like that have beyond its rated cap?
They said it was 126 t load 🙄

126t was the main lift load ..... the Lieb looks to have been tailing the load out flat so would only have had a smaller percentage of the entire load.
rated loading on a crane or its jib is subject to all sorts of factors ... some are down to stability of the machine, some down to structural strength/integrity of the boom itself .. all of these factor into the safe working load of the machine at a given radius ..... no boom on a machine of that size is going to stand up to having a sudden shock/overload as that would've ... had he been slewed the other way round, facing the load, the damage may not have been so catastrophic, but would still have been very serious. As it was, it was folded back on itself and rotated circa 180 BTLs ... with that level of shock loading it'd be damned difficult to decide just what was still structurally sound or beyond safe use/repair
