question for those that might know ... hoping I already know the answer, but nice to hae it confirmed by a few like minded souls ...

want to put a shut off tap on this ...

so's i can actually control flow (i.e. turn it off) at any later date, without having to empty yon tank .... (got plenty of SS ball valves for all the other ports in the tank) ... but as usual .. binned all me big stuff in the clear out so am gonna have to buy me a valve (didn't anticipate wanting anything bigger than 1.5" and slung a LOT of 2" and 2.5" gates and balls)

So the Q. is ... anyone see any issues with using a brass bodied full flow valve? this is the main outlet/feed to the VD pump on't Deutz so is not under any pressure, etc. ...... brass is usually acceptable in hyd circuits and shouldn't succumb to any detrimental effects from some sae32 / 46 / whatever -- can guarantee it will not be Fuchs' Plantohyd

I'd definitely take the handle off if you put a valve in though in a mobile application could you not tip the tank so the outlet is above the oil level if you need to make changes?

Aye ... I'll secure the handle for sure ... the tank is a cube essentially and to tip it to that point it'd be coming out the filler ... easier to fit a shut off ... you know me, --- plan for future eventualities .... will be fitting taps to all orifices, just in case I need to 'modify' anything (including the drain [with a plug in it though])

well me tap and fittings didn't arrive today -- as promised so no progress on that front.

Pam presented me with a barrow full of general crud/crap this afters ... topped off with a lot of half empty/dried/generally bolloed paint cans - for dealing with that she'd sorted out of my old tool shed, that got stuffed to the gunwales when we first got here and has been slowly sorted since. Was a wait 'til it's totally dark job

and yes that is glowing cherry red ..... burnt very well

whilst waiting for said darkness I had a couple of hours on the deutz's dash board - again ...... and I am there .. all extraneous shite identified and extracted -

all relevant / required bits sorted ..

and tagged/identified for re-use

and started to sort a new panel for the bits that'll be required

couple of odds an' sods left to locate .... but it'd gotten 'proper dark' by then

found a better bag yesterday for a temp cover, for now .. Simon'd donated a few of these a while ago ... corn bags .... bigger than dumpies .. not quite enough to cover it all, but most of it

Reo rocked up 'bout 11 this morning, on his way for his flu jab -- could I spare him an hour or three, later ? wanted to have a look at one of his motors .....

posty turned up with these 'bout one ... pity the bloody valve didn't too .... both deliveries were supposed to be here, latest, yesterday

'The boy' was back by two and we set about it .....

got to say Ferdy's engineering is nice ... all came apart sweet as

Reo likes his toys, between this and two TTs he has plenty to choose from, for a play ...... just lacks time to play with 'em
he did get a good tune out of it on the drive as he left

had started perforating this when he arrived, so it got did a bit later

been over cast here all day and the only time we've had sight of the big yeller fing was as it was setting.
The bell for munchies slowed progress on me new control panel ... for an hour ... but went back to after tea'd been scoffed ..... was ready for the 'big swap'

went well and am pretty confident that i have it all as it needs to be

a Gewiss that I had sat .... could've gotten away with the next size down - just, but this was to hand and I have room for a few later additions, that I have in mind

few more lines to run/play about with, for the E stop, but need to get the cover off the motor and check a few details out on the other end of the loom that got snipped ... have binned the leccy throttle control in favour of a good old manual set up .... 'twere on or off and I do not like revving the nuts off a motor from idle .... much prefer to ramp it up gently and TBH I am not gonna need huge levels of rotational energy

anyone fancy a slightly used control panel ... one not so careful owner and two butchers

interestingly the clock on the left has gone from a parked position of mid way between zero and 100 psi, to it's new indication of just short of 200 psi ???? with zero electrical input from me or me meter ??? very odd

'Sposed to be a nice day tomorrow, so might get the cover off and have a further tracing sesh, for the last couple of 'indeterminates'

knocked out a couple of mount plates for the hyd tank yesterday ....

just need a couple of welds on the backs to consolidate the studs -- tapped in, but want 'em permanent

rang me fabby mate down the road, in search of some materials to extend the chassis on the Deutz ..... mobile straight to ansa - no service where he lives and number unobtainable on his office line - been told he's damned near retired - place is all locked up whenever I come by there ... gonna have to pop up his house and see him - suss the score ??

might have to sort out a 'bulk order' with one of my old stockholders - want / need quite a bit and see if they'll deliver for me --- won't take a lot of doing to get it up to a tonne or more ----- BIL wants some gates making for his drive too and got several other projects in need of some ferrous.

well the site wasn't tight ....... but getting there was 'interesting' down some bloody tight lanes ... not an area I'd ever been to before ... site was in a lovely spot.
first time I've been out from here that early in a while .. makes for a more rapid lane transit ...... 'til you meet most of the local 'giles,s' shifting their 'iffy kit' under cover of early morning darkness the one must've been 12ft wide if it was an inch ..... made for a delayed trip, having avoid them -- or follow a couple
anyway ... despite obstacles and challenges we were there well before the trucks.

truck was fashionably late .. as they usually are .... 'sposed to have been two ... all turned up on one 45ft artic ... take my hat off to him getting in there.

I got the load 'straw' - back of the truck ... get 'em slung right for tucking 'em into steel toe flanges on the beams ... need to be slung just right, notched end slightly heavy and nice an' level, width -wise

Russ had a perfect view .. clients blokes just had to steady 'em

quad garage, dug into the bank .... beams were there for a 'burial' after completion

(and the next couple of floors in a few years time, when the planning committee's members'd changed)

not a single house/whatever over looking this place and he'd had to jump through all sorts of bloody hoops to get his garage/workshop/mancave - - owned the 45-50 acres surrounding it FFS

So ... despite the truck being an hour late arriving, we were wrapped and rolling at bang on noon. back at Russ's by half twelve and he's been telling me about a couple of 'trees' he wanted to shift at his place on the way back - hint, hint

so got his old JS145 warmed up when we got back and for some reason I ended up in the cab? .. reckoned I might be a bit smoother with it than he is .... tidy old girl but a tad harsh on the slew ... swapped his 2.3m grader for a 4 ft toothed, after some 80 mil pin banging and scooped out a suitable hole for the first tree's new location ..... "anything in the ground Russ?" .. " nope, virginal " ...... and it was, but took it steady anyway
Scooped out one of the trees on the way past and sat it on the deck for a later lift into spot and tracked out to the next spot, where this un had to go ...
pretty close to his workshop ....
"anything in the ground Russ? " " not as far as I know .. have dug here before and found now't " ...

so steady as we go then - well as steady as a 4ft tooth-er on a 90,s JS145'll allow anyway

" You keep yer eyes glued to that ground Russ an' watch out for anything 'suspicious' "

he was doin' fine 'til his phone rang and he turned his back on the hole, just in time to miss the tiny white spark that i got out to investigate ... was it a rock ... or a bloody cable ...... nope ****in' cable -- no sand/tape/tiles/FA ....
main 3ph incomer to his workshop, where everything else is fed from -- which was supposed to be under where the JS's track were sat .....
" er .. Russ, WTF is this then ??? " .... " can't be, I found it under where you're sat, when I put the slab down for the hardstand " ........ " 'praps it's migrated Russ? " .....

so while we waited for WesternPower to turn up .... tracked across and scooped out tree #2, from the front of the house - (note Reo, busy pointing )

and set up the Lieb. to fly 'em into spot ......

and #1 getting dropped behind the JS, which was now back in digging position, for WP's bloke, who'd by now turned up and wanted a MUCH bigger hole, than the tree needed .......

JS could pop said tree into spot, when they'd finished with the cable repair, from where it was sat

I left about quarter to six, after creating a hole you could've buried a rhino in -- stood up!! and they were still faffing about ... 'talking' a good repair , instead of walking the walk
Russ told me later, was 19.50, 'fore they switched him & several neighbours back on ...... " ooops, oh dear, never mind " as they say

If someone doesn't get bill take it as a lucky escape. ENWL up here first thing they ask for is to see your electricity plans of the site and where ur cable detector is. They would need to ask details for who to invoice so if they didn't do that might get away with it.
