Here water is ducted through the subfloor, usually into the kitchen area. BT and Fibre is external up the wall. Electric box is recessed into wall and the duct goes into the cavity and up into the box. Foundations are never to be touched.

Standard foundations in our area are 30inch wide and a foot of concrete for cavity walls and 2ft wide and a foot of concrete for internal walls. 18 inches from ground to top of foundation for frost cover
The difference is clear now. You are installing imperial footings. All the footings here are metric, so a different set of rules🤪

Interesting chatter on services and footings guys 🤠
Keep the information coming....
IMHO think we should be guided by what each BC Officer requires.
I usually have to work in 2 different adjoining Districts who both do things slightly differently.
Although most of the time I don't take the lead in dealing with BC - usually the builder or customer 😜

Have often popped a piece of 110 in the bottom of the trench before a concrete pour for services but with steels at that point.
IMG_3267.JPG

This one went under the footings through that 110 pipe as above.

What I have done a few times now is retro install new MDPE water mains after an old one has let go
And then we bring it around and up the outside of the building. In this case we use Insuduct to maintain frost protection.
In such case I am usually working with a plumber.

building control defer to the water connection company as its their legal obligation to pass the install when they inspect prior to connection. Never had BC ask a question on services ever and we done a lot of builds!

As we always use block and beam we do lintel under the beams for electric/comms/sewer and they do check the lintel is correct, sometimes.

That great 👍🏻
Just love you sharing yer experiences 🥰
Likewise have done lintels over service ducts, but it’s alway my builder business partners that do that stuff thankfully 🤪

An interesting day in the country yesterday.
Mark the guy who I worked for recently on his Farmhouse build has several parcel of land in the area.
"Dave, can you just put some duct in for services under the footings of the barn up the road"
IMG_4262.jpeg

Turned out that these footings were put in about 2008
IMG_4267.jpeg

So poured the coffee and got cracking. Decided to start on the Thursday, too cold first part of the week :p
IMG_4268.jpeg

Poked a bit of 2" right through with the back of the 9" bucket
IMG_4269.jpeg

Note to myself - "You are not a Groundworker" 🤠
Wrested two of these in before lunch.
You may noticed that I dug the trench with the 18" before trimming with the 9"
It's because some poor sod had to kneel down in the trench and get some hands on :devilish:
IMG_4275.jpeg

Job done and tidied up.
Whilst on site Mark said, "Can you just tug out those self sown trees and bushes" :ROFLMAO:

.......later the same day, I rocked up for an early evening job on the way home.
Andy from the Lodge said, "Dave, when you get a moment can you dig out an old tree stump for me in the front garden?"
IMG_4276.jpeg

Can you spot the immediate problem?
IMG_4278.jpeg

How I hate working near gas mains :(
So an 18" test hole was dug with my nice graft.
Note the gay marking so it don't get nicked on a busy site 😚

Andy was out at the time that I worked my magic. Shallow roots tugged out easy with no teeth on the 9"
Raked the dirt back, tracked in tight and all fluffed up ready for grass seed
But he phoned up when he got home, "Hello Dave, just wanted to say well done and thanks! When is convenient to come and settle up?"
He's popped up this afternoon after walking with his wife at the local Nature Reserve.
We will have tea and cake in the 'Rule of Six' meeting area ;)

So you’ll remember wheat in 2 cwt bags then 🤣
I can just remember watching my dad carrying them. I can also remember him loading sugar beet at the station and moving the wagons along with a six foot bar under the wheels. He said it wasn’t moving them that was hard, it was stopping them in the right place.

Yep, my late father-in-law used to left them when he was a farm worker. They were 16 stone and he was 10 stone.
He said that it was easy if you lifted them properly. He was fit old bugger 🥰

Be a waste of time painting my spades like that, Dave. I’d have worn the paint off by nine o’ clock.
As I said, "I am not a Groundworker" 🤣
Mind you my regular 'gut buster' is bare metal and shiny. Cleaned at the end of every day and evened treated to WD40.
Learnt that from Richard my groundworker mate that I went to school with 😇

Serious fettling and drilling done

IMG_4293.jpeg

Then prepping for front mounted towbar sourced from a Ford Orion. Gonna be used to move trailers and stuff around my yard ;)

Rusty towbar treated to some black tish :giggle:

Then Rod (Grab Lorry Driver) came round with his Vauxhall Insignia which had starting problems for some pit time, "Mechanic at work has one and said that supermarket diesel causes problems"
So we changed the diesel filter. Easy job over a pit. The old filter and housing was seriously sludged up.
Amazingly Vauxhall have done away with the water drain plug in the bottom of the filter housing.
So, drained the housing into a jug for inspection. There was about an inch of water in the bottom
