I can't understand quite why we are YoYoing the entire country for what is ultimately a London problem... If they had Hemmed the Pricks in at the start of the year then it would'nt of got spread....

This is exactly what was/is done in Oz.
Melbourne was locked down and the city folk weren't allowed out to spread it around the rest of the state - it worked.
Sydney is currently locked down with the same intentions - we'll see how well it works there.

For some context:
- the fine for leaving Melb without a decent excuse - £2800.
- the fine in Syd for not wearing a mask in shops, public transport etc. £ 110

In lots of ways - yes, but that's not the point.
The point is the uk's half-assed shut-down so far have achieved squat. Unless you get serious, the next one will be the same.

If you want to talk "authoritarian", I think only china has more CCTV cameras than the UK.

Well, this is about as s**t as it gets for me really. Wife in hospital for non covid reasons but for an indefinite amount of time- I have plenty of work in the cards but now stuck at home looking after our 5 yr old until mid feb minimum with no ability to work or earn. I have a fair wack of tax to pay come end of January- like f**k If they think I’m going to give it to them now though if there is no SEISS.

Very clearly made point last night you carry on working ....so unless your forced to shut as in hospitality etc all of us on here should be cracking on?
Not the same panic closing as last time from what we seeing...keep safe and crack on...
Was some dumb fekkers mouthing off because their competitors stayed open and cleaned up their customers if you want to sit at home and have a paid holiday do so but don't moan when other folks keep earning a crust ffs.

I was all for the first lock down, with the thought of "get it over and done with"! And i thought it would have all died down by now.

I agree action needs to be taken! I just don't know what! I think recourses should be put into catching the persistent rule breakers! bigger fines for those totally breaking them.

We had a 8pm curfew from the 26th til the 1 of Jan, i really don't see how that made any difference! looking out on the road at night there was still cars out there, they cant all have been essential journeys

Thing about the first lockdown for a lot of self employed people or small businesses was it was acceptable for a few weeks if you looked at it as forced holiday. How many of us actually take much time off so having it forced upon us wasn't the end of the world and surviving financially for a few week was doable. Problem is when you're whole year has been disrupted since its not so easy. I'm lucky in that i have several jobs on going and some to start which provided builders merchants stay open will be unaffected.

When this first started I had a couple of self enforced quiet weeks and delayed none essential jobs....but then carried on pretty much as normal cos if you don’t get them done there’s plenty waiting to take the work off you.

Well for me this time feels a bit more serious. Morally I don’t feel comfortable going to work at the moment as it feels like even with social distancing the new strain will do what it wants

A couple of friends have lost people recently and one was as healthy as they come and not particularly old. Covid did them in . I now have staff who I’m not able to furlough due to starting a day after the cut off but if I could I probably would and just have a quiet month to try and help stop the spread so we can hopefully get back to normal in March for the spring

Apart from school traffic not being around the roads seem as busy as ever
And there is no way that all these cars are doing something essential

But don't worry I feel very safe as 2 covid marshals cam passed today
I know they must be doing a serious job by the assault boots cargo trousers and tactical vests they where wearing

Someone quoted this to me today:
The NHS employs 1.47 million people and has 147,000 beds. That is 1,000 employees for every bed.
A bit of googling and it appears approximately correct and that only includes directly employed, not all the agency workers, GPs, home helps, nursing home staff etc.
Yes I know some specialities don't need a lot of beds, but even then I wonder how we need that sort of backup per bed.
