Afraid you might learn something? :)
You say that jokingly, but when my daughter was doing GCSE maths she asked for a bit of help and I thought now problem, I did A level maths back in the day. No chance of the difficult bits, I had to google how to do it. There are such high expectations of children now. They are trying for 100% and instead of just learning the subject they learn how each paper is marked so they answer the question, not only with the right answer, but in the way to maximise the marks.

I feel your pain. That said, I have used very, very little of what I learnt at school in my day to day job, save perhaps some basic concepts from economics such as economies of scale and such.

I don't understand why we teach this stuff if kids aren't going to use it?

back in my day, we were subjected to Mathematics, arithmetic, trigonometry, algebra & geometry, all as separate subjects, with equally separate exams ... could never 'get' the point back then ... but have used a lot of what I was taught, daily, throughout my working life and still do ..... similarly English language and English literature were separate .. and taught 'properly' .. none of this 'close enough' tish, that is killing the language and the art of using it correctly, properly punctuated !!

Imagine when your daughter asks for help in French  not just the one subject but the lot is in French o_O
Luckily for me she is really good at languages so never needed my hinderence.
Having reread it I see what you mean - at school in France. She should get a good grade in their equivalent of English GCSE. I think I might pass on French literature though.

then she's a very lucky girl to be fluent in two of the most universal languages there are .... can get by in most parts of the world with one or t'other. The French had an empire like us and their language, or a version of it is pretty wide spread ;)
but yeh .. can imagine that's a bit of a o_Oo_Oo_O moment :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I found my old log book the other day. The joys of logarithums when you had to look up tables rather than press a button.
English language and literature are still two subjects or at least they were where my daughter went.

Shes doing her Baccalauréat next year , and is doing really well - she is top or among the top in french which always makes me smile, because we speak mainly english at home so she is or at least was disadvantaged in the beginning....but its a real mix spoken nowadays in our house .....english/french, a few yorkshire expressions/words mixed in 🙂 and even the odd bits of Breton 🤪

Confuses her mates from time to time 😁

I was quite good at french until I met my secondary school french teacher. Right bastard he was.

I know just enough french to get by, luckily I also know how to look stuff up ;)

Weird thing was I was at a market with H a few years ago, and I was able to understand roughly what the lady at the stall was saying and could roughly translate that for H, but couldn't get much back the other way!

comes with vocabulary....and the more time you spend there the better the vocab gets ... the more you think in French

My mate was shagging our French teacher - it only came to light after we all left school!
we had a very shag-able German teacher .... hardly the language of love though, is it .... not aware of anyone I knew getting extra 'tuition' though :giggle:

Here is Essex we are in Tier 2
BUT a few larger towns no where near us have the rates of infection going up 🙄
The review due on 16th December could see us go into Tier 3 😬

My mate married his teacher FFS :ROFLMAO: what a going on 🤪
I had a (teacher) mate who married a pupil, when she finished school .... had been seeing each other secretly for years (with her parent's blessing) .... still very happily married 35+ years on ..... most of his colleagues thought he was gay, with no 'known' female in his life ... had a hell of a shock 😂 😂 :ROFLMAO:
