Anyone run their steel tracked machines up aluminium ramps? Considering a multi purpose dump trailer with aluminium ramps but wondering whether the steel tracks on my 5 tonner will destroy them...

Wouldn't want to do it myself, be ok for grip but will be rough as on alloy. Possibly be too steep an angle for putting something like old conveyor belt on first. Used to load steel tracked diggers into trailer with some homemade steel ramps. They were two lengths of box with angle between about every 10 inch. Angle was put in with the v pointing down and so the two top edges were proud of the box about 10mm. Were plenty grippy for steel tracks and not too heavy but useless for owt else.

I know someone with a steel tracked mini
Has completely destroyed the ifor williams ally ramps
Not only the abrasive nature of the tracks but they seem to give a higher point loading than rubbers at the base of the ramp

I’ve got ali ramps on my JPM multi-purpose dump trailer that I load my 6 tonner on steels up, and the ali is fine (but slippery). The steel tracks don’t hurt it. Loading 8 tonne diggers up them bent them though, which was annoying!
TBH I hardly use them as it is quicker to climb the digger in/out though.

Yeah that sounds good, I had steel ramps on my old Herbst trailer but they were only 350mm wide and 8ft which made for some pretty hairy excursions out of the trailer on an icy morning.

I have thought about adding timber 6x1” planks to the alloy to protect it and perhaps aid grip a big too. Don’t mind loading without ramps but running older machines i imagine the worst when a hose bursts just as I’m lowering myself down!

Built like mine were they actually weighed less than aluminium ramps, they were shorter mind but plenty grip with the angle sticking proud. The no ramps loading is ok as long as back edge of trailer is meaty enough.

Yeah. You can get 8 tonners in but have to leave the back door off (they now do one with a ‘magic’ back door which I would definitely go for if buying again). My TB260 fits perfectly but you have to practice your loading as the trailer sides are too high to slew around once in. You would struggle to climb a smaller machine in without ramps too - the Tak needs the trailer sliding in/out from under it as you have to have the blade right down if not using ramps.

Yeah I see. I was probably only going to go for the 11 ton gross Jpm as it will be behind 80hp tractor and wouldn’t want more than 11 ton anyway. But the 14ton is better value for money having better axles, twin ram, sprung drawbar etc etc

The 14 tonne JPM looks and feels massive on the back of my Same Explorer 95. I’ll probably be using it to move some rubble this weekend so will get some pics.
It is amazing value for money though!

Yeah, sounds a good idea. Would have to be pretty tough, 10mm 5ply I’d imagine looking at what’s available..

I could have had literally miles of conveyor belt out of an old quarry we’ve been working in while they decommissioned it - kept meaning to grab some until one day it had all gone...

this has been top of my list for requirements, I want to spin the machine around inside the trailer, hopefully I can with the 57being nice and compact. but trying to get a spec sheet with dimensions on from dealers is like asking for a block of gold upfront! I think Irish don’t do email.. broughan gave me them all over the phone which just got confusing, oh and in ft only so I assume they only work in feet to the nearest full number

It is very close with the TB260 - if the upper structure was 50mm or so higher it would go around no problem.
Is the 57 a zero? If so it should be fine (I don’t think it is though)...

not a zero , has about 300mm tailswing, but it’s 620 high, so I could just get a trailer built with 600mm high sides and it would be fine, all be it a shallow trailer it will help with loading over the side etc. will come have a gander at yours oneday
