wessex here.does what it should but oil in back of tractor can get hot after couple hours.i put the large steel plate on bottom so can pileup with wood to save endless bending which ain’t good with continual back ache.i normally cut logs in 12inch lengths first.not had much stop it apart from really knotty wood but I can normally split these with perseverance.

It’s holding 2 bits of inch box to top and bottom of levers so I can use it with one hand.often have to hold a missed shaped log and as I’m not an octopus that’s the easiest way.

A malone 14 ton splitter for tractor, never will use an axe again, probably fill an 8×4 trailer in an hour and half if all blocked beside you,we normally have two men one on splitter full time, other putting blocks on splitter and wheelbarrowing into shed.

Good point on the processor timber sizes Dan, won’t bother with anything like that, just something with a big table and is fast will be ideal! Want to keep the digger freed up for grabbing logs out, will grab and cut the logs while they suspended are off the floor 👍🏼

I collected this last night £320. Its a brilliant piece of kit. Not done alot. First job will be altering the lever a right pain in the arse.

Don't complain - suggest what's better
I think a lot depends if you are buying in wood or just using up what you can acquire. If you are buying it in get a processor and buy suitable wood. Guy who works for me also has his own firewood business. He used a hydraulic splitter for years and although much better than an axe there is still a lot of hard work. He upgraded to a processor a couple of years ago and hasn’t looked back. It could be a nice sideline to help offset the extra cost of a processor.
if you are just using up gash wood a processor won’t cope.

totally agree ..... but out of stock :(
Bugger! Might be worth a call. I think the next version up is around £1800 comes with a table and the two handles are right next to each other rather than either side like the £1500 one I have.

Did you look at this dave. Think its exactly the same as the one I've just bought. Made in leek. Not sure he's still got it. It's only up the road from me.

wouldn't want to try cropping stone with that Dylan ... blocks/bricks yeh, but stone is a whole different game .... that's cutting ... the stone cropper bursts it along the knife edge line, over a knife edge support under the stone you're cutting .... might be ok with summat soft, like the blocks/bricks, but sandstone / limestone, etc.:oops:

Think you missed a trick here Gra.
You could have built a stone cropper then used it for a log splitter 👍

One of my customers had a monster stone cropper with its own power pack, can’t remember the make of it.. but it would certainly destroy any knotted log if you so desired , but it was very slow going..

Interesting thread, use a 20t PTO splitter on mf35 and processor regularly ..but just bought a lil 7t portek impact splitter for my own pile at home, blown away with it ...nothing else comes close speed wise to impact splitters .
Mate has this one it's blindingly fast .u need to be on your toes tho.
Yeah they not for everyone as needs to be pretty clean but then the fiskars X27 sorts them out.
But productivity wise they take some beating.
