Now then, we are all guilty at times for using the internet to slag products/firms off, with this post I’m gonna redress the balance for myself at least.
for three years I’ve had an Ifor gh1054, 2013 model that I bought secondhand. To be fair to it it’s been a good trailer and done a lot of work.
to cut a long story short on Thursday last week I had the Ifor on a customers ramp to sort/adjust the brakes, anyhow the outcome of this ‘inspection’ revealed a spring hanger hanging off and the back of the drawbar barely hanging on, with several cracks in the chassis. We gave it 10 mins with the mig to get be home bu basically the things had enough. So I need a new trailer.
You’d think that’d be fairly easy wouldn’t you? WRONG
Firstly which one do you buy? I didn’t want one that was too wide which I suppose restricted me a bit but i initially fancied a Bateson, rang three different dealers, 2 of who didn’t seem that bothered that they didn’t have any in stock, the third was a real nice bloke who was very apologetic but said he couldn’t promise me I’d get a trailer this year if I ordered one.
Not a major problem I thought, I’ve a very busy Ifor dealer not far from me who to be fair are decent people, and the Ifors are alright, nope no chance, haven’t got anything, don’t know were there is anything and if you order today it’s Christmas deliver.
At this point I’m all over the internet looking for a secondhand one to tide me over, ringing everyone but drew a blank everywhere.
By now I’m starting to get desperat, the thought of not being able to move my stuff about where I need it doesn’t bare thinking about. Now I can’t ever remember seeing one close up but have read on farming forum the these Nugent trailers are pretty good. So I rings a dealer, ”no mate, nothing in stock and don’t know when we can get stuff”. Rang another dealer but no answer. So at this point Friday morning I as good as gave up and got stuck into some work. About half an hour later the phone ring “hi it matt bolton from Barnes and bolton trailers I’ve had a missed call off you”
The fact that he rang a random number back was at sign he was at least keen, anyhow I explained my situation to which he said he didn’t have anything in stock. By this point I wasn’t phased as I’d herd that all morning. Matt then went onto say he was just about to call a dealer down country who he’s doing something with a may be going to next week and he’ll ask him on the off chance.
TBH I wasn’t really expecting anything but I was great full that somebody was actually interested a bit. A hour later matts on the phone “the blokes got just what you want, Nugent P3116h it’ll end up about £3100+vat but it mite be late next week before we can get it to you”. By now a couple of days seems nothing compared to the alternative I’m sure I could borrow/hire something to keep me going so I told him to email me an invoice so i could pay him. Sure enough Friday night I got an email with an invoice, for £50 less than what was the agreed price. By now I’m starting the really like the way this bloke works.
All that’s good enough for anyone, not matt, he’s swapped stuff around and the trailer was in my yard mid afternoon today, my only negative is I was out on site and couldn’t get back to sake his had in person.
The point of this story was basically just to tell everyone if they want anything at all to do with trailers there’s nobody comes close to the service from Barnes & Bolton trailers from Preston. I’ll never go anywhere else from now on.
I’m aware this post has rambled on, and if your still awake, you’d think I’d be finished? Nope, not with mentioning the Nugent trailer.
The Ifor was alright, but in my opinion the axles are a bit close together so it doesn’t ride great a lot of the time, the Nugent are just a little further apart so it rides spot on. That really was my only ever gripe with the ifor, not now, the build quality of the Nugent is something else, you can see the strength is there in the right places and its just neatly finished off and well thought out.
What I’m saying is if you want a trailer give a Nugent a serious look and if your in the northwest ring Barnes & bolton. Great product & top service.
