could anyone with the SS1 system speak to its usability? On such a small machine, It just seems like the right choice.

It all depends on your intended use. Do you want to use a grab or anything hydraulic under it? Do you want a hydraulic hitch? I see you have a top hitch but that size machine would be better with a direct mount tilty. Are your buckets s30 ? My advice would be to go with the control system I know it's a lot of money but after a year or two you will have forgot about the money and will be smiling when doing that tricky job.

the intended use is grading work and excavating. a direct mount will not work for me, as the tilty will be used on several machines. a hydraulic hitch would be fun, but on such a small machine, its not "needed". this machine only gets used 10 hours a week or so. I would like a grab, but again, on such a small machine, its just hard to justify the added expense.

IIRC you had a JD and a 1CX which would take a EC204 and a Volvo which would normally warrant a EC02. Leaving aside whether you will be able to switch the tilty between as many machines as you would like because of weight issues, I would discount DC2 because of costs. At this end of the market the costs of the DC2/SS10 installation (including the control system and joysticks) is around the same as the cost of a basic SS1/SS15 tilty, so in rough terms you are paying around three times as much to get a DC2 setup on two machines as you would to get the basic one on the same two diggers. Now add in that one of the machines is used for 10 hours a week and I can't see how you would recover the investment. Back in the day when I was selling these things, that's not an option that I would have put in front of you.

Bit of an update, It has started to snow here, and I am Once again in my very favorite seat of the year, A pistonBully 600! This is more fun Than should be legal.
All this snow has me getting very excited about a Tilt Rotator for my 14 ton Cat! Engcon has found me used direct mount one with 5000 hours for 15 grand plus install costs, with a grading bucket and DC2! that should be lots of fun!
After seeing some fully rebuilt Older cat excavators, I am considering having Cat do a certified rebuild on my 314 this spring. It's a 2003 model, with 2400 hours, but I intend to keep it for 20 years, so It would be nice to have it like new.
Hope everyone is surviving the Covid mess alright, with the elections looming here in the states, things are a bit uncertain.

Ok. Back to the point.
I have the SS15.
I had never been on a digger with any system but wanted a tilt and rotate system. At the point it was SS1 which is tilt or rotate I didn’t really want the experience.
I know have an 18ton machine with DC2. Using the forks I am happy with the rollers. When I change the little Kubota, would still go with the SS15

I can't say i know which system SS15 is, SS1 would use my existing pedal, and switch between tilt and rotate. It would also make it much less expensive to set up each machine for, although, I'm sure it won't be as fun as Dc2.
