Everything is more expensive round here but then we must have alot less rust issues as there are plenty of 20 year old trucks running around

I don't need a new truck yet was just hoping something would come up with all that's going on but nothing happening yet
Just keep an eye out. Best position to be in if you're not desperate gives you plenty time to see where things are heading.

I've seen a couple 2008 Hilux single cabs with around 60,000 miles for £5-6,000 in the last year

The hilux rust just as bad and attract a ridiculous premium for what they are
Been looking at 2010 rangers as they upgraded the gearbox that year lowering the gearing
Looking at them with around 100k miles
Around 6500 grand gets something in fair Nick
The equivalent hilux would be near double the price and they arnt double the truck
I'm sure the ranger for that year are around a 3t tow capacity, whereas the Hilux is sub 2.5t

2.8 ton towing on hilux invincible at that age. Mind saying that does anyone bother anybody towing 3.5 ton with a pickup is overweight if they take their bait with them anyway.

As a benchmark I thought I’d get a webuyanycar valuation on my Navara this week (as a rule it is bottom-book, ie the lowest price you’d get offered as a part-ex). 2016 66 plate, 61000 miles, fsh. Just over £7k plus vat.
There are a lot of overpriced old pickups out there, for not a lot more you can get something with a load of manufacturers warranty left. Worth considering!

Went through this process about 18 months ago now.......
......and test drove a few of them out there
My new daily driver had to be like a car when towing the caravan and grandchildren as passengers
And be a great workhorse towing the 3.5T Ifor and other trailers to/from jobs.
Got really good advice from James @Shovelhands and bought a Nissan Navara Tekna new on a '68' plate back in November 2018

Opted for the Truckman top to keep my stuff out of sight from thieving bastards.
7 speed auto tows the Ifor well giving 24-26mpg when loaded. Always feels in control.
Seat covers used when on site and rear seat space used for welfare stuff ;)

DSC01126.jpeg
We even dragged the caravan down to the Great Dorset Steam Fair 2019.

Done just over 10,000 miles in the Navara and absolutely love it.
No troubles whatsoever so far.
Getting up to 47mpg solo at trunk road speeds. Bimbling around here getting just over 40mpg (shown on the dash) 😅

As for getting the best deal, shop around and then get yer local dealer to 'price match'
We did just that - F J Chalke was recommend by James and we got a superb quote which was about £5,500 less that our local stealer
Then.......we test drove at the local dealers, in Colchester and made friends with the salesman.
We then negotiated a 'price match deal' within a few pounds of the F J Chalke offer 😁

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
I’ve run hilux for years and currently tow my ecr25d on a gx105 ifor.im never short of power and rarely go over 40/45 when towing but I know norfolk,my home county is fairly flat.my current truck will spin the rears in 3rd gear on the road when moist.as for towbar heights I’ve put a 60mm spacer on my trailer to keep everything level.the spacers are oem ifor Williams parts and makes it far safer too
Nick...
funnily enough I was looking at a 40mm spacer under a hitch on a 3.5t Ifor tipper today, behind a Hilux ... Pam's daughter's FIL's truck, dropping off some stuff from Vicki's .... interesting idea ... not seen it done like that before ..... in fact the whole A frame assembly was a novelty, the way it was mounted to the tipper  ... was sat very nicely behind the Hilux though(y)

My 03 plate has one of the cleanest chassis going but the drive train is knackered and it's starting to have alsorts of electrical tantrums
It's only a personal vehicle really so can't justify a new one and I have no debt apart from mortgage so don't want to start that game
But I want a truck as in an unfortunate event I have alot of tools to go and earn extra cash fencing doing logs and alsorts of farm work
you and @maz want to get your heads together then :giggle::giggle:

You can see the spacer factory fitted on my new trailer 2 years ago.sits nice and level behind my hilux
Nick...
I asked Brian James about the same thing, but they said any spacer fitted would invalidate the warranty, so had to have a drop plate fitted.
Or for the Range Rover Sport versionView attachment 15421
Not 100% bit I'm sure this is a disco 2 with a front end conversion, was floating around eBay for quite a while
